Thanks to those with constructive comments. It's a shame some people cut in with quite frankly bhy comments..not really expected from blokes talking about cars and it does bring down the forum. Opinions can always be divided but I guess some don't know the difference between opinions and being a bh. I'll keep posting with questions/opinions now and then on this forum as I don't see why a few should spoil the forum for what it is intended for. I guess this thread is now closed?! wink

And I guess some people don't know the difference between someone calling a "stanced car" crap and being personally insulted with childish name calling much akin to school playground antics, but hey thats the World we live in......

RB5, you may not like the 'Stanced' scene but why keep commenting on a thread you have no interest in. Go and sit on Scoobynet or something like that and talk about Imprezas, we'd rather talk about old Stanced golfs if that's ok with you.

The OP asked a simple question and you continually reply in a negative fashion, just go away from the thread please as you have nothing constructive at all to say.

Congrats. A reasoned post without the name calling.

But no I wont sit on scoobynet as I am not a fanboy and I love a vast array of cars even some Golfs but not when they are ruined with silly camber and stretched tyres/notching chassis etc etc.

So you're pretty adamant that you're going to have your say and ruin a thread that really didn't need your involvement, all because of your God given right to have an opinion and air it? I wouldn't care, the word "stanced" in the subject line should have really been enough to put you off, but for some reason (troll?) you clicked on it and gave a completely unhelpful post. Sadly people like you are all over this forum.

People like 'him' are all over all forums, and always have been. Where does it say on this forum that only rigidly on-topic replies are permitted, and opinions are not?

You are aware of the concept of conversations, and how they evolve, aren't you? Open minded people don't try and snub other peoples opinions in face-to-face conversations with real people, so why should it be any different in a digital conversation?

I would suggest it's the easily offended types who should avoid controversial topics, rather than those with opinions.

I happen to agree with people like 'him' (rb5er). Car owners have a moral duty to keep their cars road worthy and safe and I take issue with the extremes some folk go to in the pursuit of 'stance'.

I don't quite like how high my house currently sits. I think I'm going to go home and dig half it's foundations away to lower it a bit. I might stick some suitcases on the roof, throw up some rusty guttering and prematurely age the walls whilst I'm there. All the functional and tasteful stuff that will win popularity in my neighbourhood, I'm sure.

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however, there is no need to be derogatory. The analogy you have given with your house is a rather stupid one especially for someone who normally gives good advice to people on older Golfs as you've had a few.

Yes some of the Stanced cars are sometimes stretching the laws of physics but they are not all like that. I recently went to a show with my 18 year old son and some of the modifications people had fitted to their cars were quite simply fantastic. Some I agree you would say, why do that to a car but most were incredibly good.

It's a scene that's probably going to stay around for some time. It's not my scene but I like looking at the cars and talking to the owners who have spent £000's on modifications.

I'm amazed how easily offended people are when an object (in this case a car) is suggested to be below average or even barely road legal yet the same people think its perfectly OK to personally insult and call people names etc.

Quite a backwards "scene" if thats what its members deem appropriate behaviour.

I like almost all marques of car (I'm yet to encounter a nice Dacia) but when you start putting tat on them and "stancing" them to within an inch of their life and making them pretty much unroadworthy then whatever the brand it really is sad.

If you don't want opinions on it then don't post about it on a PUBLIC forum for all to comment on.

PH is full of people with the same view as me on this, I'd guess 80% are against all this style>substance or form>function etc. I can start a poll if you like.

Reminder: PUBLIC FORUM

This is one of the reasons why I barely frequent Pistonheads now, it has become quite a boring forum and not just this sub forum which has also become rather pipe and slippers!
You mean practically dead, then you look at general gassing where barely a day goes by without a new Vag model being labelled dull, boring, wrong wheel drive pretend 4wd, before anyone has even driven it.

OP whilst I can understand the appeal of buying an already modified car you need to ensure you are getting something from someone who has dealt with professionals using quality parts or someone attempting to emulate the ultra low look on a budget!

Have you registered on the Mk3 golf owners club, golfgti an edition 38 forums an try the numerous Vw for sale Facebook groups

Thanks Andy...I'll definitely be checking them out..appreciate the advice wink

I'll also have to start getting hold of some vw mags...

If I come across a really nice mk3 golf then I'll get it but if not then I'll hold out and I'll just have to make do with the 911 wink
