I can't get a straight answer out of Audi - have rung three dealers and all differ slightly

My car has done 26k miles and is two months short of being three years old

It had a long life service 15 months / 12k miles ago (befor I bought the car)

The oil change service light is showing and the inspection service and will be due in two months

One of the Audi dealers has suggested I only need an oil change and a brake fluid change at this point

Can anybody tell me if I go ahead and get the oil and brake fluid changed, what will be changed when the long life service is due in July 2016 (at which point it will have been two years / 20k miles ish since the last long life service)

I normally go by and suggest this:

Oil every 10 (or 1 year).

Oil and inspection every 20 (or 2 years).

Brake fluid first at 3 years then subsequently every 2.

I'd be very tempted to do oil, inspection and brake fluid together then you know exactly where you stand and are on top of everything.

That was the plan originally and i will be getting the lot done during my next service - i don't really have the time or the inclination to have it 'serviced' now and then have to take it in again in 6 months time.

My question was, that if i was to have the oil changed now, is that part of the official long life servicing at audi meaning that the oil would be changed twice in six months...???? Or not..

My second question (which i appreciate that only i can answer) is Audi are quoting around £400 for the longlife service plus the brake fluid change whereas i have been quoted half that at a local Audi indie

Is a stamp in the book really worth £200?!

No its not worth the extra - indeed I would personally place a higher value on an indy service than a main dealers. Not sure the market would agree though !! Might be worth changing fuel filter too at least you know all the criticals have been done.

I think the indie mentioned that that would be included as a matter of course. Conversely the changing of filters all seemed to be optional add ons at the dealers

I think you've helped me make up my mind - I'm pretty sure that the car will be more comprehensively serviced at the indie, the only thing in the back of my mind is the what if scenario of something breaking down out of warranty (I'm not planning on extending) and losing 'goodwill' from not having had it serviced within the dealership

The Audi system of oil changes at 18000 (long life) then an inspection service every 2 years is quite strange compared to most makes.
Also is your car petrol or diesel?
I am guessing diesel? The fuel filter on a petrol is not a change part according to Audi.

I have a 1.8 tfsi and I have the car on long life, that is an oil change when roughly 18k, dash display says when, last two have cost £99 for oil and filter at the Audi franchised dealer (price matched to local indie). Also the inspection costs around £120 every two years. So servicing to Audi level cost (with stamped up book) about £160 per year. Brake fluid extra of course.

BUT I change the oil and filter half way through the change interval, 9K miles, myself. So add oil and filter cost every year.

It works for me.

Wait until it's over 3 years old and then go for a fixed priced Audi service.
