Dead S3 - look away now!
Discussion
I lusted after a TVR a few years ago - it was when I saw a photo of one that had been t-boned I went off the idea, as the front bumper of the other car had literally reached the transmission tunnel in the TVR (totally crossing the passenger seat) before it found something solid enough to get the TVR to break traction.
In a nasty situation like that you couldn't really ask for a 'better' outcome. I realise 'better' is completely relative but I'm glad to hear you're OK.
I too have been involved in a somewhat unpleasant RTA in a modern Audi and walked out with only a graze from the airbag. It's comforting to know that should the worst happen you're only worrying about metal and plastic.

That was hit at 30-40mph?! It looks like there is no damage at all except for the missing doors. What did the Nissan look like?
Glad you're ok, it must have been pretty hairy.
I bet the chassis is badly deformed. Sobering though, a T boning in an older car would probably be fatal. Glad you're ok, it must have been pretty hairy.
The introduction of the pole impact test as part of EuroNCAP made a significant difference to side impact protection - it's a good bit harder to design a structure to deal with a point load, so when it then gets hit by something over a reasonably distributed width it does a whole lot better than cars of old.
Glad you walked away
Glad you walked away
Hi guys
Thanks for your kind comments. The Nissan was traveling at 30+ mph (through a red light!)
It was pretty well written off at the front I think.
I will crop the photo of the Nissan and post it up after removing personal info. Ironically the insurer actually debated (briefly) about repairing the S3.
Glad we are both fine, the Audi certainly saved our bacon, a strong bit of kit the A3.
The only advice I can give to you all is too;
A) buy the strongest ncap rated car you can afford
B) buy GAP insurance (can offer a personal experience on this once my case is settled)
All the best

Having relatively recently written off a similar S3 I can echo those sentiments. The car safety systems are amazing; I walked away with just bruises from a 50-60 mph impact. The car was a right state but the passenger cell was completely intact. Insurer considered repairing mine too, until they got quotes. Also, GAP is totally worth it.

Yikes! I guess it's possible the car was torched after crashing, if it was stolen. It's quite possible with that level of intrusion that an oil or fuel line has been split and sprayed onto a hot manifold and gone up that way. Would've taken a while to burn out like that....http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greate...
