Well it looks like the worst may have happened. Audi UK are now saying they cannot honour my S8 deal due to it not being built for end June.

Have complained to Audi UK as I'm really unhappy about this. Have had my order placed since 14/1/16 and only by pusing and pushing for info am I now being told this some 5 months later.

Anyone any advice other than waiting for Audi UK to respond to my complaint?

Ouch! I'd be reading the fine print of the order/contract/whatever very carefully.

Indeed I intend to do so.

I think they have the right to cancel should they be unable to deliver the vehicle by the time specified. Need to have a look.

annoyingly i spoke to audi today and they told me many of the S8 have been coming in early... don't suppose that means there's any chance of yours squeaking in or is that a dead duck now?

Well I've spoken at length to the supplying dealer and from their perspective it's not happening.

I have however spoken twice today with Audi CS who hinted they may try and source me another S8 and I'm awaiting a call from the dealer principal tomorrow to see what they can offer me but it likely won't be an S8. Perhaps an S7, etc.

If it's not a close equivalent I'll go back to Audi CS and complain again as they fully agreed the way this has been dealt with has been a farce.

Seemingly a large number of S8 orders have been cancelled due to no build slots. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Hope they find something else suitable. A cynic might say it's entirely possible that the dealer knew from early on that there was no realistic chance of it coming in, but felt that rather than just fess up they'd quite like to sit with your deposit money in their account for 6 months.

Not saying you're wrong but a deposit in any conventional savings account doesn't accrue much interest if any in todays environment!

More to the point, it reduces interest on their overdraft/mortgage.

it might do if you have 200 customers in the same position.

It's possible. I was under the impression that most main dealers have fairly high levels of debt (eg mortgages), so the benefit of holding the customer deposit is that it avoid PAYING interest at maybe 5%, not that it EARNS interest at 1%. Is that wrong?

has anyone gone for gap insurance and also how? Admiral only give market value for total loss claims, and clearly these deals had a fairly chunky deposit... so i'm assuming gap is pretty good idea. Not sure what claim limit to specify...

I used car2cover. 2 years, vehicle value £50,001-75,000, £10k claim limit, premium = £93.10.

how are you working on the value though as that certainly is not list price!! Also claim limit... i am assuming this just needs to be the total of my contract value i.e. the deposit and all the monthly payments, so like £16k or something?

IIRC the value of the car on my sales agreement was discounted to £66k. Anyone paying full retail would be crazy. Claim limit needs to be the amount left to pay and since I would already have paid my deposit if the car should subsequently get stolen or written off, I won't get that back from the gap insurers no matter what the claim limit, hence £10k in my case.

GAP insurance was discussed a few pages back. I went a bit over the board comparing to Harris but difference in price is very low anyway.

On another note, my car is at around 7300 miles now, next oil service was pushed to the max. value at 15,500miles or 440 days after I did 2 x 1000 miles trips.

Max speed cut off in my car is at 268km/h (166 mph), tested it in Europe. GPS max speed 263km/h, so there's only 5 km discrepancy, which is not bad. There's definitely enough power to go further and it does it on S7 gear. I don't think I've ever seen S8 on my display.
