I think I will buy a second hand facelift d4 as they seem very good value!
it's not a bad shout. They've barely changed in 5 years and a 2012 example is what, £25k or so?

The cheapest 2012 I’ve seen is 30k but for a couple more you get a 65 plate so seems a no brainier to go for the 65 unless it was super cheap.

having looked they do seem to be priced quite weirdly. I guess the 65 plates are the first of the cheapo lease returns. Perhaps the sellers of examples up to 3 years older than those haven't quite got the memo / latest cap values book. 12 plate should be mid 20's really, looking at the others, and not just the leggy miley ones.

If a decent 12 came up mid 20s I’d definitely buy it, prefer a facelift so just see what crops up in the next 7 days or so as have to get one before the classic goes in for body work and welding or I will be Carlos.

35k over 48 months is £730 loan payment...

At the end you will have something worth ~£15k to £20k

So "real" cost based on £35k depreciating to £15k and no mileage limit is £416PCM

and the cost of my lease is £480. Not much in it I guess. If it's been well looked after then could be worth more at 6 years old... not sure.

Where are these cars? I'm seriously considering one to replace my Phaeton V10. But it must have cooled seats and all the gear.

you missed the lease deals by about 2 years mate, but if you're looking for ex-lease used ones then just check the usual places.

they don't have cooled seats as standard, and not sure what you mean by all the gear but i'd say the standard toys list for a £80k+ car is paltry.

Not interested in lease deals I prefer to buy secondhand and own outright. I was going to see one up at the Derby Trade Centre it was a 2012 model with the cooled seats, they offered me a very good price in PX for my Phaeton but I wimped out at the last moment. Virtually every car I've seen doesn't have the cooled seats, admittedly not everyone likes/wants them but I do and all of my last cars have had them.

And down a bit on power, although I did try a later 4.2 diesel with the 8 speed box and was very impressed. Am I the only person with doubts about the long term outlook for the hot V's? maybe I'm a just paranoid.
Is the only difference between the later cars and a 2012 just the lights?

My ex-lease S8 was last advertised for £34.5 at small trader who bought it at auction. It had 20K miles on a clock, almost a year left of original warranty, 3 year service plan and ventilated seats as extra. It was for sale for about two months and price started at £38.5K in November. It just disappeared from Autotrader a few days ago.

I expect more S8 65 and 66 plate will show up for sale soon. Some of them have low mileage like 10-13K.

Sorry, you are right, I blame a bit of Autotrader drift, started looking at S8's, then A8's due to the 30k+ PA miles I do, then posted... whoops!

that tells a story really.... i.e. it went out to the dealer network at probably top money. The dealer had to price it on the high side to sell, which it didn't, and then it went to auction as anything that refuses to sell after a few weeks often does... dealer probably took an absolute bath on it.

VWFS would have sent it straight to auction, surely? No sign of a main dealer flogging this...

There's about 30 15/65 plate cars on autotrader between £34-40K - only a couple of them are from main dealers.

It went straight to small trader. I watched Autotrader to see when it comes back to the market and at what price. I even talked to trader offering him extra documents for the car, etc.

I think most of these cars went to traders, I guess dealers decided it's not worth it for them. I asked JCT if they want to acquire my car when getting new A8 and they said, they are not interested. It makes sense, since market is flooded with them now and prices dropped. Some of the traders/car supermarkets have 3-5 S8s on 65 plates.
