Hi Galahad. I was tempted by the lower prices of these 2 year old cars. I'd be interested why you feel that you wont miss the S8. Are they really that bland?
Probably best to read reviews from beginning of the thread. Then you will see what cars people compared S8 to, their usage and reason to get one (except low price).

Just about to hand mine back. I've been sent a reminder to service the AC, which looks like a standard 2 year reminder.

Since I'm handing the car back a couple of weeks before the 2 years are up, and the AC service is frustratingly not covered under my fixed price service plan, I'm not planning to waste a day of hassle dropping the car in and forking out 150 quid for a regas.

Also, it's odd that they didn't tell me this when the car had its oil service a month ago. Wish dealers would start putting themselves in the customer's shoes every now and then.

Anyone else done this (ie not serviced the AC, but done everything else on time, and handed the car back)?

For reference, I returned my BMW M5 before the next service was due (about a month away), and they took it back no problem.
my view would be if it isn't a documented service type in the service records then how will they prove you haven't done it?

Agreed. It's frustrating that they send me this reminder a month after the car's already been in for a service, and a month before it's due to be handed back! And £150 is a joke.

Hello,

My S8 (bought in November last year) is saying it will need an oil change in around 1000 miles. I've called the supplying dealer plus two others and they're all quoting £340-350 for the oil change. None will let me supply my own oil (a shame as 8 litres of Mobil 1 or Castrol Edge is around £70 at Costco...).

I'm not trying to run the car on a shoestring and I realise it's a high performance engine but this seems like a lot of money to change the oil and filter. In owners' experiences is this what you paid please and do they do anything other than change the oil and filter for that price (which I imagine takes about half an hour)? Otherwise, is it just an "S" tax?

I have read the thread but there's not a lot of info about service pricing and this is my fourth A8 (plus assorted competitive cars) so I'm used to main dealer pricing - this just seems steep for what it is.

Many thanks in advance for info shared.

I paid £258 for oil and inspection service on my S5 fron Hull Audi. I got 4 quotes ranging from £470 to £258. I know thats not an S8 but it seems there is a vast fluctuation based on what dealer you speak to.

i think VAG service plans are generally cheaper than the service cost, even at the lower of the above figures

Yes they are IIRC, but I believe they only sell them to retail (i.e. not lease) customers so I don't know what savings there are to be had

Nope. I had one on a leased S8. I purchased from the fulfilling dealer. I think it does need to be done when the car is brand new but don't think it matters whether it's a lease or not.

Yeah, that's not true, I've had service plans on several leased VWs.

they will turn you away if you try and buy a plan after you've had the car a few weeks or more, regardless of how you've got hold of it.

Ah thats good. OT I know but do you do it when you are due to get the car, or when you have ltierally just got the car you ring your local dealer? Or do you have to sort it with the supplying dealer? Just for future reference on my part! I arent too worried about the S5 as £258 is all I will need to spend on it service wise but its good to know for future.

Again that's not my experience of it. I've bought a plan when the first service has been due on a number of occasions.

Not true. Can be bought any time,

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/servi...

Right now from the comfort of the internet, if you like,

https://www.vwfs-service-plans.io/runtime/server/s...

I just ran a 2 year old Golf through it. £476.82 for next two services.

well, i was told i could only buy it when the car was brand new. Maybe strong arming tactics by the dealer who knows.
