Devo ( or any other remap) stag 1 or a tuning box for my s3
Discussion
I have recently bought a 08 Audi s3 after selling my 03 Audi s3. The old Audi had been re maped (don't know which make) and was quite nippy at lower revs. The 08 version, although higher bhp standard feels a little sluggish compared to the 03. So, I'm looking at maybe having it remapped, what is the better option, I.e. (Revo) stg1 or maybe a TDI tuning box ?
I am a total NOOB at this kinda thing, so any help would be grateful.

Welcome to Pistonheads.
You're quite right; the old S3 with a map on came on with quite a woosh, the newer model whilst having plenty of poke will feel very refined in comparison.
Revo Technik's software is good and widely available so you'll have some support locally. It will certainly give you that big surge of turbo torque you like. There are a lot of tuners out there and everyone will tell you that their own is the best and that xxx tuner is good/bad/ugly/did this/that - it's an argument that can go on for days. If the tuner you want to work with is within sensible travelling distance, you get on with them and you're confident in their knowledge there is a lot to be said for that.
Tuning boxes are not generally regarded as the best solution.
If it's within a drive then MRC tuning are regarded as one of the best in the UK; they will write/tweak a map specifically for your car, ensure it is doing what it's supposed to and let you know if there are any weaknesses or problems you should address. This is the belt and braces approach although if your car is in good order there is no reason you can't use an 'off the shelf' map from another reputable tuner.

I would personally take it to R-Tech Performance in Hinkley if it's accessible for you. He's not a big-name tuner like Revo but has a reputation for being one of the best, if not the best, mapper of 2.0 TFSI engines out there. All his maps are custom rolling-road jobs and he's extremely well-regarded on the various forums, plus last time I checked his custom maps were cheaper than the generic ones that other vendors offer.

MRC are also excellent, as are Badger 5.

I spent many years in the 2.0TFSI world.
If you want fully custom then R-Tech are the place to go, MRC also. If you want off the shelf my first pick would be APR, I had APR Stage1, Stage1+ and 2+ on my 2010 Leon Cupra R. My friend had the same setup on his but ran REVO and eventually swapped to APR.
I have since moved onto the new TSI engine, I ran REVO for a few months but have since gone back to APR.
