Anyone took their Alltrack "offroad" yet? How did you get on?

And I don't mean parking two wheels on the kerb. biggrin
Funnily enough my mrs called me today to tell me her friend got stuck in a field during some event they were taking the kids to. I have told her how to put the alltrack in offroad mode so let's see if I get a call to say she is stuck!

I think a lot of the comments are true above. I have done around 1k miles in just under 2 months and can relate to most of them. The DSG box is great in my experience, however the start/stop is annoying.

The car is also way over sensitive with regards to the parking sensors and crash detection system (not sure if it brakes for you but if a car gets too close the alltrack goes absolute ballistic).

I have found sometimes that if you don't fully press the brake when coming to the stop the car can randomly creep forwards. Happened a couple of times now to me.

Overall very comfortable and a fantastic family car. I've said it before; I have no idea what I'll replace it with when it goes back.

I'm 99.9% happy with the car. If I had to pick fault, the steering wheel padding is too thin and hard. It's just not as nice to touch as the BMW's.

biggrin Button hidden to the left of the gearstick should stop that happening. The auto cutoff drives me nuts, especially when waiting at junctions to pull out. By the time the car has started the engine and put itself in gear I'm just in time to pull right out in front of a fking huge bus or truck. eek
If it's anything like my A4, then the engine restarts if you just come off the brakes verrry slightly. Brakes will still hold the car easily. I try and do this when I spot a suitable gap coming up, so it's ready when needed. Similarly you can keep the engine running by easing slightly off the brakes as you come to a stop.

In full in ECO mode, mine seems to put autohold on, and waiting for the brakes to come off causes part of the delay. Trying to get away quickly out of a t-junction and the steering wheel seems to be momentarily locked after the engine restarts which is disconcerting.

I was playing with the driving modes and ACC in heavy traffic during my commutes today. I hadn't noticed before, but in ECO mode the car will disengage gear doing with no throttle and coast - my average economy went up from 30 to 32.5mpg.

If I turn autostop off and ACC on, the car does appear to crawl in the queue, unless I ended up stationary for a while, and then I had to press the RES button to start moving again. Anyone else played with this?

Anyone investigated fitting a tow bar to one of these?? Looking at getting a caravan and there's no way our mk6 Golf would tow and I'm not using my M5 to pull a caravan...

Strongly on the cards for me but not overly looked into it.

Imagine it'll have to be fitted by VW at extortionate cost...

I'm sure someone on this thread ordered it as a factory order and it was £650, but I could be wrong.

It doesn't have to be done by VW. If you search on the net plenty of independent towbar fitters have fitted bars and electrics to Passat B8s.

For me it's all about the cost, as it's coming in at around 700 for me based on some initial searches, was only 450 for my 5 series.

Can you do that to a lease car?

Anecdotally, yes. I've read people have just left them on there at the end of the lease as well, or you could have it removed.

Funnily enough two things happened today.

First, a lease booklet turned up with VWFS expectations of how the car should be looked after etc. It states that any modifications are my responsibility and when returning the car I should make good holes in the paintwork etc, but seeing as the towbar is unobtrusive I'll just crack on.

Oh and I ordered a westfalia detachable with electrics etc to be fitted next week, £400. Tidy. Will post pics when it's done.

You actually read some documentation relating to the car?! eek

I might give that a go - VWFS have sent me a pile of letters, some seem to be doubled up, but along with the manual they are still on my to do list.

Alltrack manual arrived on Friday.. Really impressed. Drivers seat is great, allot better than the Golf R it replaces.

A couple of things I cant work out. How do you get the passenger mirror to dip when reversing? Also, on previous cars the interior lights only went out when the car was started, on the Alltrack they go out as soon as you close the door - can this be changed?

Cheers
I asked this a while back. Is the spec on the manual Alltrack any different than the DSG version?

Can't answer your questions unfortunately as I've not read the manual either, biggrin but I think my mirror dips. Press Car button on the screen and there are lots of setting in there.
Thanks - spec is the same. Read manual and still can't get it to work. Anybody?
Sorry to be a Pain in the butt. Anyone found they their passenger mirror auto dips when selecting reverse? It did on the Golf R, and as we park on the road I am getting in the neck from my wife!

This YouTube vid shows how to set it up - if you have the option.

Not present on my vanilla-spec R Line estate; as hornetrider has posted, this option seems to be available only with the seat upgrade.

I'm hoping the 4mo will come in handy to avoid situations like this... hehe
