Mine arrived this afternoon. Was driven down by Crewe. The colour is fine (urano grey), I actually quite like it and it's much better than it looks on the VW website.

Having come from a mk4 Ibiza the car is extremely comfortable and I'm looking forward to the next two years in it. Service also set to 20k miles.

Any questions fire away.

Good news. Mine turns up from Crewe on Monday. Did you have to drop the delivery driver off somewhere?

I swear the folks at CVL don't read emails. Requested delivery for 31st stating I can't take delivery on 27th May and what date do they book it in for?! Sure they will amend it but just means more work for them. Got my registration too.

Spoke to the dealer about insuring my wife as the policy holder they gave me the talk about it needing to be in the lease holders name (mine) and I asked where in the terms this is stated. She starts to reel off section 5 and only stipulation is that it needs to be insured fully comp. I'll double check with VWFS next week as we have the same set upon our current car.

Mine is via CVL and besides the initial submission of paperwork back in March , i've heard nothing yet from them!

Had finance papers from the dealer last week (Sinclair Cardif) which were sent back, and car being delivered next Friday.

I've signed the finance agreement for the monthly payments, but not been asked yet for the initial payment? Wonder when this will be!

Sinclair have been pretty good (lady called Zoey) and responsive to emails and queries.

Question - i presume VWFS are the registered owner, and i'll be the registered keeper? Presume i'll also never see the V5?

Both our cars (bought) are in my name as RK - our insurer (LV=) said for a husband and wife they couldn't care less who is the policyholder and who is the main user.

I put one of the policies in my wife's name only so she would have the safety net of DOC cover - although I've read some companies omit DOC that on policies for leased cars anyway.

I offered to drop him at the station as it's only a mile away and feels like the right thing to do after he's driven 300 miles.

Did 50 miles in it today and it was excellent. Only managed 38mpg though but I wasn't hanging about on a roads.

I told CVL three months ago (just after initial order) about an address change. They failed to tell anyone else about it and VWFS are now checking my ID etc and doing credit checks based on my old address. Spoke to Sinclair who said they'd only been informed about the new address after I contacted them... CVL aren't great IMO.

Not had any paperwork to sign yet, although was asked to send scans of my driving licence, utility bill and passport last week.

No delivery dates yet but car is at stage 5c (in transit) so I guess they don't have a precise fix on when it will arrive.

So, to GAP or not to GAP?

What have you guys done?

My insurance includes new for old for the first year, and my up front is only £390.

Should I be ok without?

I've decided not to bother with it. For me, the financial risk is low.

That generally doesn't work with leases.

This is the problem. Even after reading lots of Gap threads, I am not sure exactly what the financial risk is, as there seems to be differing opinions and no conclusive answer....

I'd the car is written off, am I likely to just lose my up front payment and my excess? Will the contract end without me having to pay the rest of the monthlies and the insurance company pay the finance company the agreed value with me then having to find a new car?

Could there be a shortfall between what the insurance company and VWFS feel is the agreed value, and then this is what the gap would cover?

If it's not detailed in the contract then you'd be best speaking to VW FS.

Generally what happens is your insurer will pay market value to the lease company. It should be there or thereabout the right figure, especially if you're with a decent company.

However this is classed as early settlement and you're also potentially liable for the rest of the lease payments. They'll likely be discounted but could still (at least with a normal price lease) be a chunky amount. Having said that, especially on consumer contracts, there are suggestions that lease companies will just accept the insurers payout as being the end of the matter.

If you're the worrying type and/or money is tight then GAP buys you peace of mind. If you're not the worrying kind then it's probably a waste of money - GAP is cheap because the claims ratio is very low. Plus you might not need to call on it anyway even if the car is stolen / written off.

I have Thule square roof bars for my Passat estate R-Line. A check of the online PDF for the fitting kit (4059) unsurprisingly also lists the Alltrack.

The full list of Thule kit is SquareBar 761, Rapid System 753, Kit 4059

Mine Alltrack should be turning up sometime today, but not heard anything yet! I was told I would hear from the driver an hour before.
