Great write up.

Although these nav errors are concerning. May have to get android play installed for Google maps.
You mean get app connect installed so you can use android auto or car play? £250 is a lot of money. If you can get Google traffic info working using car net by connecting your car to you phone via wifi this may improve things, the frustration is that the car doesn't seem to automatically connect to iPhone's hotspot but it may auto connect to an android or a dedicated mifi betters he important thing is how the VW headunit uses the traffic info - will need some more playing.

Daughter's metallic black SEAT Ibiza was bad for that. It had a huge splodge across the bonnet which left a faded area. T-Cut didn't touch it, but Autoglym Paint Renovator got rid of it easily.

In comparison to T-Cut the AutoGlym stuff is positively terrifying to use.
Yup, seems to have worked well. I can still see the marks if I look reeeeally close but I think another run of Autoglyms stuff will do it, phew!

After a few days with mine a few niggles have surfaced. Firstly the DSG I find is frequently in too high a gear to give the car any kind of urge when you need it, I realise it's mapped like that for economy but often makes the car feel a bit sluggish when you need a burst of acceleration for overtaking or moving past slower traffic on a motorway. There's sport mode which is better, but can get a bit over enthusiastic and change down too readily.. Secondly and probably being fussy now, but the usb media connection never seems to show the correct album artwork on the screen compared to the track being played, it always gets stuck...first world problems and all that.

Love the car otherwise and still an absolute bargain.

Yeah but in the context of the cost of the car it's bugger all. I thought I read somewhere I could get it for £200 as well... may have to research it. Anyway I'll hold off and see how it goes with wifi connected to the car. I can always add a widget to the homescreen to toggle hotspot, won't be too much bother then.

OK just rang VW to enquire.

Car Net App Connect is what's on the VW options page.

The service guy I spoke to had to ask a few colleagues, but Car Net is seperate from App Connect apparently. My car does not have Car Net. But... I can have App Connect added to the car for £215 which will give the google maps, music through the phone app, etc.

But on the VW website it lists Car Net as 'everything related to in-car network connectivity'.... including App Connect wobble

Clear as mud hehe

As clear as usual with a VW dealer. I'm sure my car has Car Net - that's the bit that lets the car connect to your phone wifi and download google traffic and news stories etc is it not? - it was a ballache to set up, you have to get an activation code after using the VIN number - I did it in the car and it was a pain as the website wasn't optimised for a small mobile display.

The DSG behaviour is standard fare. My 2012 VW CC was the same and it is widely reported on lots of VW sites that this is same for most other DSG equipped models. Sport is too aggressive and hangs onto the lower gears for too long while normal driving can be a little too sedate.

Fuel economy is not quite what I expected. Rolling average after 750 miles is just below 40 mpg although I did manage to get 45.7 mpg on my A road and mway commute this morning. It's supposed to run in front wheel drive mode for normal driving only switching to 4 wheel drive when needed - so economy is a little disappointing.

My petrol golf GTI is doing better than that on that type of driving.

The VW website, and the dealers are not really that clued up with options, whats standard etc.

When i ordered my van with sat nat, it automatically added 'guide & inform' which, according to the VW website, is part of Car Net.

Also, according to the registration page, the process takes to to an "order Car Net" section before the Activate page.

Who's brave enough to try it?

It's free for the first 3 years. Then something like £100/yr - I can't imagine anyone paying for it though.

All the cars have Car Net. App Connect is the optional feature.

I was surprised, comparing it to missus's Tiquan with the same engine but in 150PS tune, that the DSG is only 6 speed vs Tiguan's 7. No idea what the spacing is, but you'd think the Alltrack must be more aerodynamic and with 190PS it ought to be able to pull significantly higher gearing. Tiguan is just about doing 2K RPM at 70.

Tiguan isn't a car you'd go mad in, but I've driven it "firmly" on fast roads and find it works fine. I've never driven any distance in Sport but apparently it never uses 7th in that mode.

Checked mine on the way home. Just over 35mpg with an average speed of 30mpg over about 350 miles.

A lot of that is in Eco mode. Not amazing but my short commute of 9 miles can't help. I thought the round trip from Manchester to York might have helped.

Ah ok.

And no, I wont be paying for it, unless it is really useful.

Fellow Alltrackers....

Following a phone call to the supplying dealer of my Alltrack who said App Connect couldn't be retrofitted , I emailed VW customer services via Twitter ( but a normal email address - Twitter@volkswagen.co.uk ) and explained I'd had conflicting reports about App connect being retrofitted and the supplying dealer saying it wasn't possible.

Customer services replied asking for my phone number and rang me promptly. The lady was most apologetic and said based on my registration the car had the appropriate bits ( technical term )!and that it could be done . She then rang my local dealer ( Inchcape Stockport ) and got the details and them to call me with a price (£215.00). They say it will take a few hours and I can have a courtesy car.

Customer services rang the supplying dealer ( Cardiff ) to give them feedback.

Anyway it can be done providing your car has the appropriate bits. An email to VW CS should point you in the direction if you fancy it. I think I'll get mine done.

Also I've activated the Car Net thing too. Can't really see me using that, you have to tether a mobile phone to it ( or Mi-Fi style device ) to activate features. You can get the weather, read the news, traffic updates...nothing a smart phone won't do.

Let us know how you get on. Stockport is my nearest dealer.

One of my DRL's on the passenger side isn't working. Only had the car about a month! Going to call VW today and hope they replace it under warranty. Guessing it's not a simple job knowing how difficult replacing bulbs in modern cars are!

Thanks I will let you all know, however not even driven mine yet as I broke my ankle 2 weeks before it was delivered! It's just been sat there on the drive since 27th May!

Hopefully on Tuesday after I've been the hospital.

Chris in Service Dept at VW Stockport is the contact.
