The Amazing PH Passat Alltrack Thread

I've had a voicemail from someone claiming to be from VW saying they want to talk to me about activating my AA breakdown cover - got me thinking, isn't it valid from when I get the car, and who do I call if I need them?
Looks like I may have to finally look at the manual and stuff that came with the car - I've managed to avoid it up'til now.

Yes I had to phone to activate mine. Pain free process. Chap on phone couldn't do enough to help. VWFS customer service is excellent so far. Looks like I may have to finally look at the manual and stuff that came with the car - I've managked to avoid it up'til now.

On bought / PCP cars, it's only valid for a year and someone (don't know if it's AA or VW chases for the renewal premium. We've two VWs in the family and I'm sure we didn't do anything to activate the cover.

Hi,
Is anyone interested in swapping their DSG Altrack for a manual one? Or taking over my lease?
I have done 761miles so far and am enjoying the experience. Unfortunately my wife isn't happy with driving a manual hence the reason to change.
You can only change if someone wants a business lease and yours is personal. Is anyone interested in swapping their DSG Altrack for a manual one? Or taking over my lease?

Apparently, as well as the Adblue you will need to buy an adaptor if you are going to fill it yourself. Friend with an Adblue Touran said the adaptor was £12.
I have seen signs for Adblue advertised at Shell petrol stations, but not sure if this is some kind of pump or just bottles of the stuff.
I thought Adblue was included FoC for Merc for so long if you had it serviced with them - not sure what the score is for VW.
ETA some details here: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/diesel/adbl...

Thanks for the link. At £1.89/l 20l comes out at £38. VW are expensive, who knew eh?! Think I'll grab some from the bay of E for half the price.I have seen signs for Adblue advertised at Shell petrol stations, but not sure if this is some kind of pump or just bottles of the stuff.

Just thought Id share some ad blue insight for those new to it, I've done 60k in an A5 Ultra so have had many experiences including running it down to zero!
1) I made several attempts to fill at a normal filler where the trucks go as I've got a company fuel card, the nozzle goes in but the cars don't have the magnetic thingy in the collar to move the ball bearing so it just clicks and clicks until you give up or get a small amount in - this is the cheapest option if you've got patience and the lorry driver behind doesn't mind!!
2) next best option is the 10 litre tubs you but from service stations, they come with a filler and you can do at home, a fair amount goes go down the car, its like PVA glue after, you have to peel it off!
3) Audi normally do it on a service for me but recently went down to zero so drove there and left it ticking over outside the showroom door and asked someone to sort it (4pm Friday :-( ) they did with the method mentioned above and charged the lease company a reasonable amount, not the rip off I've heard being quoted on other sites for dealer fills.
4) when you run low you HAVE to fill with more than about 8 litres, the day mine was zero, when it was on 5 miles, I dashed into Halfords and got ripped off to the tune of £20 for a 5 litre emergency bottle, it didn't recognise it hence the dealer visit straight after.
5) A fill normally last me 7k miles.
Might be useful for some of you, can confirm below 100 miles remaining that loud beep goes of every 5 miles grrrr

At the weekend I read that VW will fill it as you wait for £1.50 a litre - you can do it chaeper but you need the adaptor or a funnel and a steady hand.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AdBlue-20L-FREE-Pouring-...
If you search for adblue on here there are a few threads - this is one of them: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=160...
I'm not doing many miles, so hopefully you will have worked it out for me before I need a top up - the worry is that if it runs out of Adblue the car will not start!
After 5500 miles I've had to refill the adblue. Bought 10l for £20 from Halfords. It came with the nozzle too.
I'm new to this so was originally a bit confused. The car said refill 1l min 2.5l max. So I added 2.5l. The warning remained. Did some reading and saw the tank us 13l so added the remaining 7.5l. Warning reset and now shows 5500miles to next refill.
On another note the ACC seems to have stopped working. Time to read the manual again before a visit to VW.

That's weird - did it say litres? The numbers make sense for imperial gallons. Having said that, the 1.89 litre bottles VW sells are 2 US quarts - so half a US gallon. On Tiguan there's a label next to the filler that says you have to add at least 5 litres.

Thanks for that. I need to visit Specsavers.....It was rather optimistic of me to think only 2.5l of Adblue would last 5500miles.
But still £20 spent every 5500miles isn't so bad and would have been less if I bought from Ebay.
