I use Apple Maps on my iPhone - wish I'd had the chance to spec the CarPlay option, but can't justify to myself to pay the £215 for VW to retrofit it when it was only £125 from the factory.
Precisely. And for "retrofit" read "enter code into computer". Although I've found that my phone sits nicely infront of the shifter, leaning against the aircon controls.

Not an issue we are experiencing with the Skoda nav, which is basically the same system.
In fact, I read some reviews online and the VW system came out very well compared with others. My only quibble is that its a bit slow to boot up.
If all units behave as mine do then the reviewers are not very good then! ;-)In fact, I read some reviews online and the VW system came out very well compared with others. My only quibble is that its a bit slow to boot up.

On ours (installed in a Tiguan but same as Alltrack) it's the traffic information that seems particularly bad. I think it used TrafficMaster (with the blue sensors on poles etc) as the basic source so you'd think it'd be good but it seems to miss a lot hold-ups.In fact, I read some reviews online and the VW system came out very well compared with others. It wouldn't be so bad if linking a mobile 'phone to it wasn't so much of a faff.
Tiguan owners who have CarPlay say it's very iffy and they've mostly given up with it.

The Passat is not exactly short on air vents, so I bought one of these magnetic mounts from Halfords - it came with two different metal pads - the best option is to put it in-between the phone and a case rather than sticking it directly to the phone:

If I set the Media to Bluetooth (or plug it in and select USB) and listen to Apple Music or TuneIn radio, I get the turn-by-turn instructions through the car speakers - I can't listen to the DAB and have the instructions interrupt the audio, but it's a small price to pay. Siri works though the car Bluetooth too.

Anyone had issues with the Alarm at all?
Saturday morning at 7am and again today at 7am my Passat alarms has went off for no reason...
No issues with the car that I can see so will ask the dealer to look at it, only other thing I can think of is some kind of interference?
Is there a small insect in the car setting off the motion sensors?Saturday morning at 7am and again today at 7am my Passat alarms has went off for no reason...

Window slightly open?
Just guessing really.
That was my first thought but all seems fine.
Very odd being the same time each time
I know its a long shot but Ive re-programmed my central heating wifi thing as that's the only thing I can think of that changed recently. Booked in for a check but I wont sleep expecting it to go off at 7am and annoy the neighbours. Heh.

I have something similar that I have yet to try on my Alltrack, though it worked fine on my BMW E92 and my wife's Honda FRV.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Super-Mini-OBD2-ELM327-V...
Ah. It's the VW Driver Alert System.

I guess my driving was st and erratic ...but given I was cruising through 12 miles of roadworks on the M5 at 50...

Well it's been 6 months since I have had my leased all track and all I can say about it is the car overall has many issues...
1st The 190bhp engine feels like the engine from a VW polo there is no power and is very sluggish.
2nd The DSG gearbox is very poor it's like driving a 1980s automatic. You have to use paddles to get any kind of life out of it.
3rd The start / stop is a pain in the ass it cuts out even before you have actually become stationery.
4th The mpg is very bad. I am getting average doing town and motorway miles over a 300mile week about average 28mpg.
5th The seats are terribly uncomfortable on a long journey
6th The so called car play is not standard that's a nice trip to the dealer and a £160 for the pleasure.
I can't wait to get of it and the only saving grace it's £65 a month on lease and I haven't bought the car out right or I would be at the dealer asking them to take the piece of st back ..

Glad to read this as it validates my decision to swerve the Alltrack and stick with my old Merc - and, as I use the car for business travel , a big part of that decision was based on how bad the Discover Nav is in my wife's Tiguan.1st The 190bhp engine feels like the engine from a VW polo there is no power and is very sluggish.

The comments surprise me, but it's not the first time I've heard them - I'd have expected the drivetrain to be similar to Tiguans but it obviously isn't. Our Tiguan has a 7 speed wet clutch box and I'm really impressed with it and it compares well to my Merc auto. Quite how VW can have messed it up so much on Alltrack is hard to imagine.

I sort of agree with most of what you say, but once up to speed my pulls really well I wonder if yours is broke. What average speed does the computer say? I average 21mph but my average mpg is still 36mpg and I only do 100 miles per week, if that and most is low speed. On a longer run it gets better.1st The 190bhp engine feels like the engine from a VW polo there is no power and is very sluggish.

Ah I see.
In other news - mine has pinged a low coolant warning two days in a row now after early starts. Seems its not entirely unheard of... http://www.passatworld.com/forums/volkswagen-passa...
Reading that I suspect a slight underfill from the factory and colder starts. Not great! If there's no leak, coolant is not something I'd expect to pay for on a 4 month old car.
Mine had exactly the same, popped in some anti freeze and put it down to underfil from factory. Hope so anywayIn other news - mine has pinged a low coolant warning two days in a row now after early starts. Seems its not entirely unheard of... http://www.passatworld.com/forums/volkswagen-passa...
