I got this error earlier, but it has now disappeared - I'm going to call in at the VW dealer tomorrow as I was going that way.

Yes, I replied to your post remember?! hehe

As I'm going right past a VW dealer tomorrow, and can meet my colleague there to drive us to the meeting, then they can top it up for me. Save me getting my hands dirty - I spent a good part of Sunday cleaning out the fuel sender filter in my wife's old Kia Sorento and can still smell the diesel!

My friend had the same warning on his new Golf Gti and that turned out to be a leaking water pump.....

I bet VW are kicking themselves for skimping on a few hundred ml of coolant.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this?

I sometimes run my Alltrack in Sport mode. If I switch off ignition, when I switch on again the mode selector on the infotainment still shows Sport but the dash display shows D - and the car seems to perform in D. If I select Sport again the dash (and mode) updates.

Interested to hear other experiences.

I used the 4x4 in anger yesterday in the snow - we live part way up a huge steep hill and I needed to get my son to school right at the top, and then get back again on the side roads to avoid the cars struggling to get back down the steep main road again.

I only had one dodgy moment when I slid the last few metres towards the main road.

I've not managed to work out how to turn the hill decent on and off in Off-road mode - I may have to admit defeat and RTFM. hehe

I also called in to the VW dealer in Stockport and was treated the whole "VW Customer Care experience" - pretty girl took my details and then walked me over to a seating area and a "technician" came over a few mins later, took my keys. went out in the sleet, topped up the coolant then brought the keys back - while I had a wizz. Very lovely.

If anyone is interested, here are the instructions for the Hill Descent Control on the Alltrack - it seems it is fully automatic, and isn't recommended for icy conditions.....

Hill Descent Control initiates an automatic braking intervention on all 4 wheels to limit the speed when driving forwards and reversing on steep slopes. The wheels do not lock as the ABS remains active. In vehicles with a manual gearbox, Hill Descent Control adjusts the target speed so that the engine speed does not drop below the idling speed.

If you enter a downhill slope travelling at a speed under 30 km/h, the vehicle speed will be limited to a speed between min. 2 km/h and max. 30 km/h. The driver can use the accelerator pedal and the brakes to alter the speed in this range. The function is interrupted and restarted each time.

However, this can work only if the tyres have sufficient grip on the road. Hill Descent Control cannot work on an icy or slippery slope.

The function display m/k/n484MK in the instrument cluster shows that Hill Descent Control is ready to use → Indicator lamps   .

Hill Descent Control is automatically activated if the following conditions are met:

The engine is running.
The Off-road driving profile is selected → Driving profile selection   .
The speed is under 30 km/h (the m/k/n484MK function display is visible on the instrument cluster display).
The incline is at least 10% when driving forwards or 9% when reversing.
You do not brake or accelerate.
Hill Descent Control is deactivated if you brake or accelerate of if the gradient drops below 5%.

WARNING
Always be prepared to brake the vehicle. Accidents and injuries could occur if this is not the case.
Hill Descent Control is only a support function and may not be able to brake the vehicle sufficiently in all situations when driving downhill.
The vehicle may accelerate despite Hill Descent Control.

The stupid thing about these cars is VW equip them with summer tyres - our Tiguan is the same. It's just ridiculous. 4Motion gets you going - but then you can't stop!

Anyone else got a squeaky driver's door panel?

Mine seems to do it while cold then as it gets warm it stops making any noise.

Pretty poor - I've not had many cars do this, even old £1000 bangers.

I sort of have this.

I like running the car down to nil miles range and filling back up to brim. If I get caught out and the only option is expensive fuel I'll resort to a splash and dash of £10/£20 or so. However when I do this the fuel from the 'splash' doesn't register, and the miles to zero does not go up to reflect there's now three or four gallons in the tank.

It's been 6mth since getting the car delivered and I've done 5k miles (so 20k over the lease term). Just checked the tyre tread and they are already down to 4-5mm and I don't think it will last for another 18mth when I return the car. I think I'm going to get some part-worns or cheap budgets on in the interim and put the OEM Contis back on when I return the car as I don't fancy forking out £165/corner for the next owner....hope everyone who managed to get the deal is enjoying their carsmile

Assuming the tyres were 8mm when new and you replace at 2mm then the tyres will last ~8k. I'd then not bother with part worn tyres as they'll need replacing too at some stage. Just get some mid priced tyres like Hankook, Falken.

I'm on 11k now and there's stloads left in the tyres. Pleasantly surprised as my BMW used to eat CSC5s for breakfast.

Seem to remember going into the infotainment screen & under time/date ticking/unticking tge DST box. The analogue clock will then spin to correct time by itself smile

I filled up with adblue this week. Turned out a lot less hassle than expected. Used the pump at a Shell petrol station. As with all pumps designed for trucks, I found that I had to press the trigger only about a third of the way otherwise it's came out way too quickly and clicked off. Also, as with all truck pumps it was filthy, so gloves recommended.

It was 74.9p per litre.

I would not have wanted to try filling up using this method on a car where the adblue filler neck is in the boot.

So I test drove a Mazda CX5 the other day as the Mrs needs a new car. It was the 2.2D but in hindsight I forgot to ask which version. There's a 150bhp/280lb/ft or 175/310.

Anyway the power delivery put the Alltrack to shame. There is a massive glug of creamy torque on tap from low down with near instant throttle response. Even a small application of throttle has the car pulling cleanly through the rev range.

Contrast that to getting back in the VW and it feels like something is holding it back or it's trying to accelerate through mud even in 'sports' mode.

I don't understand it really as on paper the figures are good. I can't help wondering if the emissions stuff has hamstrung contemporary VWs.
