The best we had was the Insignia, apparently 530 litres, but with that big hatch opening it seemed enormous!

Well it's not a belief just an opinion,
Sorry - wasn't specifically aimed at you. Just that a previous poster said the boot size was "beyond crap" and "utterly impractical" for a family car.

We looked at a Tiguan a year or so ago and dismissed it purely on the size of the boot. We didn't even bother driving it.

Sliding seats or not it's considerably smaller than the luggage space available in the other cars we were considering (CR-V, XC60 etc).

surprised just how expensive it is. Added, the only engine available currently is the 150hp TDi or 180hp petrol. The R line in 4WD/DSG starts at 35k so looking at close to 40k optioned and the 240hp version will be around 42-43k! for a tiguan.

I must be out of touch but I thought 35k would be a loaded top spec Tiguan. I'm sure the LR is 50k but I think they are stupid money too and I don't like the look of it or think much of its engines. I'd rather buy an x3 or go up again and pay 55 for a macan.

The Ateca comes with the 150bhp ACT petrol, cracking engine but only in FWD although keeps it light at 1,300kg. £21k on the road apparently, so under £20k new with Seat discounts. Maybe they will put that engine in the Tiguan too but no doubt a silly premium for softer plastics.

They're going to have to be careful going over £40K due to the new road tax rules.

Tiguan will have the 1.4 ACT, orderable from May. Looks like only in 2WD manual though.

Ateca doesn't come with anything at the moment - it's not out yet! It's a little smaller than Tiguan which, despite the comments about size in this thread, I reckon will be quite popular.

"Our" Tiguan is my missus's car - she had two Honda Jazz's before and was OK with them but I wanted her to have something a little bigger as she's doing a school run through country lanes. I was set in mind that was going to be Honda HR-V but when I saw the EX auto was £25K and we could have Tiguan DSG for the same price I got her the Tiguan, and she absolutely loves it.

Not sure we'll get another one - she just doesn't need bigger and the price is looking too rich for a car that she just uses for pottering about in.

Really embarrassing offroading press video.
I remember when offroad cars were built to handle terrain, now they shape the terrain just right so the new car can drive over it without scraping.

Wow... that really is awful. Surely vw had nothing to do with that.

Well I'm not buying one for the Mrs school run. I'm a bit annoyed to be honest. It's an expensive change. Going q5 instead. It's way overpriced for what is a mid sized car.

As they probably cost about the same to build, I can't imagine VAG being too dismayed.

I don't care how VAG feels. They make a good product so not about to cut my nose off... But we all know in 6 months time you will get 10% off no problem.

Who buys these cars at list price? A quick check on the internet shows that VW is already offering 17% on the new Tiguan in Germany. I'm sure you can get 10% in the UK.

You'd probably have to go through a broker here to get a discount - VW dealers in the UK are weirdly arrogant when it comes to pricing.

I haven't looked myself, but on the Tiguan forum I use someone posted DtD were showing it straight away with £3K discount.
