Anyone got a Golf GTE?

I think CarPlay is now bluetooth (or maybe wifi) with the latest ios, although i think there is also an option that needs to be ticked on the spec.
As far as I'm aware it's not a constraint of iOS (it works over Bluetooth in some cars), rather a restriction of the VW system. I'm still trying to work out what cars have Apple Car Play? Budget won't stretch to a new one sadly, so I'm looking at 'nearly new'. I would very much like to have car-net and Apple car play but there seems to be so much conflicting information over what the actual spec is (and what actually works!)
Basically, I want to have a good Spotify interface, use google maps for navigation and be able to set the heating remotely in the morning. I'm still not sure if this is possible in a MY15 car which is what I might end up with. I'll have to run this for 4 years probably so want to make sure it's right!
Thanks to all for responses so far.

Hi All,
Sorry to hijack, I recently took delivery of an A3 etron, I'm very pleased so far. One question, I' ve only pushed the loud pedal all the way down once (the car has done 800 miles but the engine only 200 ish) but boost mode didn't engage. Any ideas what conditions need to be met for it to activate? The battery had 50% charge, and it was in auto hybrid mode.

I honestly think you'll get more mpg out of GTD for your commute of that length.
The BIK is however much better on the GTE
You may well be riffs but as I only pay the BIK it seems like a no brainer on paper! Concerned that my employer may have their nose out out of joint if it's worse than my current dinosaur powered VRS (149g/km!!)The BIK is however much better on the GTE

GTE is more relaxing , DSG of course so good in traffic and , in GTE mode, feels every bit as quick. You just won't quite get the benefit of the plug in charging on the longer trip. In reality you'll use up the charge quickly and end up running in hybrid mode which IME yields 40mpg or a little less.
but great for your BIK and its a smart, proper sporty car.

I've got an e-tron, and boost mode engages automatically when you push the accelerator right to the floor - but it's a bit like kick down in an old school auto; you go through what feels like the end of the pedal travel and the power meters flys round into the 'boost' section 😀Sorry to hijack, I recently took delivery of an A3 etron, I'm very pleased so far. The arms working out brilliantly for me - I work 10 miles from home so commuting costs me nothing (I charge the car at work ☺️). Even on long runs - a 400 mile journey in one day so only the initial charge at home - it does low to mid 50s to the gallon, and somewhat confusingly will claim that up to 30% of the miles are "emissions free". But then we should all take an Audi (or VWs) emissions claim with a pinch of salt now 😝

Funnily enough I'm just trying to find the "arrange a test drive" option on the VW website.... That'll be why I can't find it.
I know this is an old-ish post but you probably need to get into the fleet people at VW to get a demo / loaner - either through the leasing company you use at work, or the business sales person at a dealership.Bumping this back up as it looks like it's back on. Anyone had a charging point installed at home? I'm trying to find out if the grants towards installation are still available and if I would qualify running it as a company car? Also, trying to find out about the membership fees etc for public charging points. Either my google-fu is terrible or the basic info is far too hard to find!!

Charging from a regular supply is perfectly easy to do at home and work if you can park it suitably, mine's done 2,500 miles and I've yet to successfully use a public charge point or indeed any high speed charger. For a 30 mile charge it's really never been worth it as all public charge points are subscription services , typically £7 per month + a charge every time use it. But charging routinely overnight and at work my car is averaging 75mpg and around 550 miles out of a tank (Only 40litres) That's for a 30 mile each way commute.
So , all good so far.
BUT on longer runs the GTE will give only mid 40's mpg in hybrid form at best, maybe a little less on a high speed trips. And it can be worse than that. In full blown GTE mode if pressing on mpg in the low 20's is entirely plausible , worse than my tuned Megane in fact.
And enthusiastic as I am about it,it's very hard to derive any real driving pleasure from pushing on with this drive train, the way the motors interact is clever but entirely defeats any pleasure dropping a gear or two. In truth it's the poor relation of the 4 hot Golf's from that point of view.
Very informative post, thank you. Have you noticed any difference in your electricity bill at home?
I understand that there are compromises to a car like this, but I would be going from a 2012 Octavia VRS which averages less than 44mpg consistently and saving myself something like £330 a month in BIK tax. Can't see my employer taking on my cost to recharge at home, but I'm reckoning on a cost of £500ish a year in leccy assuming I charge it every day.
I plan to have something else for silly weekend fun, so this is purely an exercise in not paying a large slice of my income out on what basically is going to and from work!

First bill showed little impact but reckon on around £1.20 for a full charge of the battery.
There is a full road test of Golf GTE in the August 2015 issue and a very comprehensive report on 20,000 miles with a Golf GTE in the April 2016 issue of Volkswagen Driver magazine - both well worth a read... :-)

What have you guys done about charging points? Standard 13A socket or dedicated EV point? My garage (where I wanted to plug in) is detached from the house and the cabling is not suitable for an EV charge point. This I guess now means that Ive got to use the 13a 3 pin lead and put a wet/dirty lead in the back of the car everyday
Just to bump this up now that its been here a couple of weeks. Its great fun and goes surprisingly well, even in E-mode.
On the long commute to work and back (no charging at work 'currently' but hopefully this will be resolved) Im getting about 50mpg average including a full charge, but running around on electric at the weekend bumps the average up.
Loads of kit and I'm absolutely loving the Blue LED mood lighting. Yes I am easily pleased.
