Well my ST was collected today so that ends my first ever lease.

A few hours earlier, I got an email saying my car had left the factory.

ETA - 1 month before it arrives at the dealers.

Going to be a long monthbiggrin
How was the return of the ST? Any concerns or unexpected issues? The R is a great car, I am sure you will love it.

I sold my car as soon as I ordered and had to spend 6 weeks using my daughters fiat 500 - nice little car, but it is not a 300hp mini super estate! laugh

Had the 5c text this morning, car will be coming to Sinclair Swansea. Problem being that I'm off to the Alps on the 8th.. What do you guys think of the chances of getting it before then? Just so it's not sat at the dealers for 2 weeks.

Cheers.

Gents - I am currently in a 135i but am seriously considering jumping ship over to the Golf R camp (hopefully before next winter as I find getting the power down in the 135i a pain if it's cold or wet etc - good car for the summer, not so much for a Scottish winter!)

Can anybody recommend me a good lease company to approach please? Or am I just as well going to my local VW dealer?

I am fancying a manual 5 door with Nav, 19s, maybe heated leather, cruise, reversing sensors... seem reasonable? What have I missed?

How do the optional extras affect the price? Just bump up the monthly payments or do you pay up front?

Thanks in advance for any replies and sorry for all the questions smile

The car should certainly be at the dealer before you leave. If I were you I would contact them and tell them when you are going away and ask them to prioritise the PDI. If they are delivering it to you it may delay things by a few more days so might be an idea to collect it yourself.

Normally dealers belonging to a larger group are more competitive than smaller dealers and contact their fleet department. At the very least you would save on lease companies arrangement fees by going direct to a dealer.

The Golf R now has Nav as standard as well as the Winter pack with heated front seats. Only you can decide which options are "essential". The cost of any options are payable over the hire period or up front so can significantly increase the overall cost. Even metallic paint can increase the monthly fee by around £30 over two years. If you are looking to spec several £k of options it may well be more cost effective to go down the PCP route after negotiating a sizeable discount of around £5-6k.

Nav + Winter pack being standard is great news, didn't realise that! I could live without the leather so probably only 19s and metallic paint needed - I own the car I currently have so once sold should have enough loot to pay the extras up front if this is allowed. Time to send a few emails...

Oh and sorry ... one more thing... can you buy the car at the end if you want to?

Return of the ST went well.

Guy came to inspect it. Said (unofficially) it looked pretty good for 2 years old.

There were a couple of issues that were close (according to the guide) including 1 slightly scuffed wheel. Few scratches here and there.

He basically signed it off as ok and said that if there were any issues, they were now on him so I read that as i'm in the clear.

Q. Just because this lease is direct with VW, i'm assuming (not that it really matters) that the financials will be the same as my last lease. Initial payment taken just after delivery of the car, with the monthlies starting 1 month after that. That sound about right?

Not heard anything from my dealer re the deal, since it was struck back in April.

He did say if the dealership got another R in, he'd give me a call.

As of this moment, i've never even seen an R estate, let alone sat inside or driven one.biggrin

VW finance cocked up on my lease. I had my £500 dealer contribution straight away, but it took them 3 months to sort out taking my initial contribution and the first 3 months payments. Basically they paid me £500 to drive the car for the first 3 months. Obviously they collected it all in one lump, but I'd kept it aside so no biggy. If you ring the number on the paperwork they're pretty helpful.

They've also messed mine up - deposit paid to dealer on collection but VWFS have taken the full amount again from my bank this morning mad Fortunately I got paid on Friday so they'll have a few days to sort out before the bank is emptied of the normal monthly bills

That's strange.

I had a £925.50 contribution on mine, but they only paid the ExVAT amount, and it took another 10 days to get the VAT amount into my account.
Apart from that it's been pretty smooth sailing. Total initial taken this morning - hopefully they won't take another!

Not usually an option with PCH I'm afraid. PCP would enable you to buy it at the end of the term.

This was posted on the Lease Deals thread.

It might help someone...

Golf R £225 p/m £2030 deposit inc vat

No idea how genuine it is though.
Did anybody use this or have heard of the company - deal certainly looks good! smile

Has anyone sought to achieve a 'Buy-out' price at the end of the lease period? I know this is something that you can request, although it may need to be purchased through a spouse or partner. I'm wondering what sort of prices people have been able to achieve at the end of the two years?
You can get a quote from VWFS 90 days before end of lease term.

What sort of prices are people paying for their cars at the end of the term? Just trying to work out whether this will be a better option in terms of overall cost compared to PCP if I plan to buy? My logic is that the lease companies are achieving better discounts than the public can achieve, so the cars will owe them less, and hence they may be willing to offload their cars more cheaply.

I'm guessing the buyout price will be somewhere between the trade value and the retail value? So say £20k for a 2 year old R?

Hi All.

Got my first quote through as below from Vehicle Savers:

5 Door Manual including metallic
9 + 23
8,000 miles per year
£290 (with 19s - £262 without)
free delivery + RFL paid throughout

Seems pretty good to me - any thoughts?

I believe the other things I want are standard spec now - ie Nav, winter pack, cruise + reversing sensors - can anybody confirm?

Cheers smile

The quote I got, back when the deal came out worked out at £5900 based on 24months 10000pa. Absolute steal and pretty much the best price I've seen on here since.

My car is in transit and I've just got my paperwork through. The paperwork has mistakenly Got it down as 36month, 30000total miles and works out about £8,600. Still a great deal.

There is a possibility that I'll end up moving abroad with work during that period which is making me wary about signing up for that long.

Do you think if I sign it all and they don't notice I'll be able to keep the deal?
Do you still think this is a good deal?
What are the normal penalties for cancelling / can I simply transfer it to someone else?

If it were £20k at the end of the term I certainly would consider it (after 2 weeks with it I love it, fantastic car) but I think most of the hatch leasers that asked for a quote have been told £24K - makes it £30k+ on their deals and you can get them for £28k from the deal sites.
