2,500 miles in to mine as it arrived just in time for a holiday to South of France. It attracted a lot of attention at the French services, they don't apparently offer them in France (at least that is what my limited French led me to believe). I am really pleased with it and echo many of the comments I've heard here already. It replaces a 3.0TDI quattro A6 as a dogmobile. It feels slightly faster but I'm not blown away by it, it out handles it massively though :-). I'm a bit undecided about the noise, I've turned the interior / fake noise off. I'm impressed by car play, it goes much further than just mirroring which is great, although Apple maps isn't quite as good as Google. Sunroof adds some light and allows the exhaust noise in.

I don't seem to be able to get above 26MPG, even on a motorway run. Albeit I've been more at the 90-100 range along the French motorways (the Audi would have returned closer to 40 on that type of run). I didn't buy it to be economical necessarily just surprised that these 4-pot turbos aren't at all economical. An older 3.5L Merc engine in my SLK would easily get 30MPG on a run.

Here is a picture at the top of Col De Port in the Pyrenees. Amazing driving roads throughout the region. Lots of nice machinery about post Le Mans. Lots of Lambo's and Ferraris driving the mountain roads. It puts the noise from the R in to perspective hearing those!

What does the dog make of it in the boot? I've been looking for a boot liner and grill for ours. Any recommendations?

Seems pretty happy, he would have preferred air suspension and about 200HP less ;-) The boot floor is a bit higher in standard position. I didn't have time to get a liner in the end and just cover the floor with a mat. I didn't have one with the previous car and it doesn't seem to have done any long term damage, so I may not bother... I also like to open the ski bag hatch to help with ventilation which a liner would cover.

I did buy the VW blinds kit which helps to keep the sun off and gives a darker tint to all of the windows behind the driver, sort of like privacy glass... Pretty pleased with that.

They've also messed mine up - deposit paid to dealer on collection but VWFS have taken the full amount again from my bank this morning mad Fortunately I got paid on Friday so they'll have a few days to sort out before the bank is emptied of the normal monthly bills

I've spoken to a couple of lease companies and it seems delivery times are now October! Has anyone placed an order in the last week or so and had anything sooner?

October doesn't seem too long. 12-14 weeks was what I originally got quoted (think mine in arrived in about 10 weeks though) and if there's a summer factory shutdown/slowdown, that's not out the question

Definitely a first-world problem, but Car-Net....

I don't have the Wireless Access Point option on my Setup screen on the radio. This means I can't use Car-Net, and having read the manual 3 times, watched YouTube videos and read various online guides, I am definitely missing the menu option. Before I ring up and try to sort it, have I missed something?

I have App Connect which works fine, so at first thought it was some thing to do with that.

It's probably a pointless option to have, but during the build I got all of the login set up from the dealer so I would at least like to see what it does.

Looks like my car is closing in, and I seem to have been lucky in the transport timings so far - I got my 5a on Friday, then 5b yesterday and finally the 5c today. Having a look, it seems like there is a car carrier (african highway) that left Emden yesterday and should be docking in Grimsby mid-morning, so I guess that's the one...

Hopefully not much longer left to wait - question is, will it be next week or the week after?

Same boat as mine then! Not too long to wait now. I still haven't signed any paperwork yet though.

Going outside to find your new golf R on the street, is like walking in to the living room (as a child) and seeing a massive pile of presents!

New to leasing and VW having had mostly Fords and cars on HP.

I'm seriously considering getting a Golf R on lease. Is my local VW dealer likely to get me a good deal or is it better just to use an internet based broker? Any recommendations for some if so would be appreciated. Thanks

Would recommend research the best deals online and then speak to the fleet department of a local dealer to see if they can beat it.

Thanks. Best deal I've found so far was £1707 initial payment, 23 x £284.55 for 10,000 miles. Works out at £8,251.55 over the two years. That's for 5dr manual with Nav. The site wouldn't let me pick any options. Is that a good deal?

When you order, do you make any payments upfront?

Does that include VAT? If so it's not bad pricing for the car in 'normal' times. Most people on this thread got a deal on same terms for a total cost of around £6.5k (on the estate), but that was in a moment of VW madness, who knows if it will ever be repeated....

Do you need to order a vehicle now or can you wait? If you can wait best to keep an eye on the Best Lease Deals Vol 2 thread in general gassing, every now and then you'll find a cracking deal.

If you order through a dealer you'll be expected to pay part of the initial rental as a deposit on order, with the balance payable at or around collection. How much often depends on your negotiating skills.

The advantage of using a dealer to beat broker prices is you generally get better communication during the order process and can avoid admin fees.
