Has anyone played around with the driving modes much yet ?

Is there much of a difference between normal and eco ?

I guess everyone will say use race all the time but a commute on the M25 at 60mph means that wouldn't help me out much LOL
Eco is great for when you're not 'on it'. When off the accelerator it'll put the car in coast mode. It's supposed to use less fuel this way. It also loosens the steering, throttle response and turns off the fake sound.

I use Eco a lot for when I'm just driving through town or on the motorway on cruise control. It's easy enough to flick to Sport on the gearbox to make manoeuvres and then casually drop it back to Eco to carry on.

I've noticed a massive difference in driving in Eco on MPG as if you can time things right you'll be accelerating half the amount of time due to coasting! It does get annoying though when you go to accelerate but you have to wait for the car to get in gear and then move. Thats probably the only downside.

I use individual, but it's effectively race with the acc reduced to normal. Mine is manual so the only thing I notice is a general lack of sharpness in throttle and steering using Eco mode, although I haven't used it in a while. When I first got the car there didn't seem much difference in mpg between Eco and race once I was on m-way. There is a big difference between cruising at 65-70 and going faster... You don't buy an R for good mpg and premium fuel is down to about £1.20 a litre so with my mileage one st is not given.

369 miles in, and issues.

ACC. Fault
Mode button unresponsive
Parking Brake Fault
Auto Hold Fault

Will speak to dealer shortly and see what's up.

All I've had was the App-Connect freaking out and restarting itself. About the same miles, but have only just started using ACC.

On the right hand side of the steering wheel, there's the silver buttons, click left or right to get to driving data, then once on driving data, use the up or down arrows on the same side to select oil temperature.

There's a digital readout of the speed and some other stuff too. HTH
I did try that but it always seems to say 'no driving data'. Is that right? I'll check again on my way home later today, maybe I'm not giving it enough time or something.

Done 200 miles in a week, about normal for me, and I love this car.

I've programmed the Individual Mode for sport driving (without the sound) and Normal everything else and have realised that it when you switch on, the gearbox defaults to normal D so you lose the sports gearbox. So in other words with my Individual settings it is the same as Normal when I first start the car.

That said, S driving is nuts as it only changes at the red line.

My only issue so far is my CarPlay voice control is dire. I have an iPhone 5S and it works fine when not connected to the car, but when in CarPlay mode although I can say "Hi Siri" and get a speedy response, on everything else it just hangs whenever I say something. I've tried responding to texts, or making calls (all of which I can by voice normally), and it is rubbish. Not a huge issue I suppose, my wife has a 6S so we will try that out soon and see if it is my phone that's at fault...

It should show at least:

Speed
Average Speed
Consumption - Current
Consumption - Average
Oil Temperature - in degrees Celsius. (if the car has just been started it will show 3 lines)
Range - Miles

I think there is one more - but can't remember.

True, but they might have been untucked in the car settings area. I can't remember exactly where to go but if you head to Car - Setup Gear and then look through the list you might see one called instruments - there you can check and uncheck different things in Driving Data.

That's the best bit, you have to change it yourself, and it works really well! Much better than having it auto change when it feels like it :-)

Took mine for a proper 'drive' the other day, Race mode, S Gears, throttle blips and exhaust "parps" all the way it was excellent.

Sure I'm in the minority, but I like the fake Subaru type noise as well.

Ah yes - of course - I'd completely forgotten about that - I just ticked everything that seemed important.

Does no-one else just sit in their new car for 30 minutes or so just going through the menus?

I only realised there was a menu function for the A/C yesterday!

I'm a bit lazy to go and look in the manual, can anyone tell me what the auto hold button does next to the parking brake button?

I assume it essentially holds the brake on until you apply some throttle? ie. hill hold assist?

I sat there for ages and just fiddled with things. I found out the other day that you can use the arrows and 'ok' button to select and save the distance when in ACC. Also use RES and SET to go up and down by 1MPH increments which is handy!!

The menu is pretty good to show where the air is flowing and you can VCDS code the car so it shows the air handling when in Auto mode too to show fan speed etc...

I'm guessing there are still things to learn about the car and its ways but getting to know it is fun! Looking forward to winter and using the heated mirrors!!

The smaller left and right buttons also change the speed in 5mph increments.

Questions...

The dynamic cornering headlights...

1) are they standard in our 'standard' cars?
2) what's the difference between Eco/normal/sport when configuring them on individual mode.

Similar question for the air con. What difference does Eco normal and sport make to that.... Anyone?

I'm 450 miles in and LOVE it. I bet these 24 months pass in a flash.

I really can't decide if I love the fake noise or hate it. It's a bit like marmite on different days. Sometimes it's nice to hear the growl.... Other times it's nice to know you're just hearing real noise when you give it some beans.

Agree that S mode is a bit too mental. Don't want to rev it to 5/6k rpm each gear change.... Just for special moments.

Good to see that many of these have now been delivered - and that you are all enjoying them so far.

I am still waiting with baited breath for updates, as mine is scheduled for build this week... Fingers crossed it will get built and shipped nice and quickly!

Bearing in mind a few of us ordered these blind without seeing or test driving them (which I have never done before), does anyone NOT like it??

I love mine, just interested...

I hadn't seen an Estate R (on the road, not the dealership), had sat in a hatch R but not driven either, I had a bit of neck/back pain for the first couple of days, but I adjusted the headrest and lumbar support and it's all good now.
I like it - it works!

For estate owners.

Does anyone know the differences between Sport and normal when in manual mode?

I've been driving mine for 3 months and can't fathom it. The owners book is useless in explaining things.
