Bearing in mind a few of us ordered these blind without seeing or test driving them (which I have never done before), does anyone NOT like it??

I love mine, 2 days in, upgraded from mk6 gti. Ride is a bit firmer than gti as had adaptive suspension before. Not taken it out of race mode yet, steering is much better weighted than I was expecting. It's fast too, quicker than my 993 and so much more useable

Not loving the fuel economy but I never expected that to be great wink

My aim is always to get 20% lower then the official MPG (so in this case about 33) but so far only 28mpg and not driving hard either........

I'm 15% below (39vs46) the official combined mpg on my Fez ST over 24k miles.

That goes back Friday.

This week is my build week so hoping to get another status update soon.

I figured that I may get close to 30mpg overall average with the R but if I don't, hey ho. I've accepted that it'll be s**t compare to the ST.

Considering the amazing lease deal that I got which, is a good £2K less than the norm, that £2K saving can go on the extra fuelbiggrin

Got a cool 39mpg driving home from work yesterday. Was driving like a nun in eco mode though about 20 mile journey.

Also noticed my drivers side R badge on the door is missing today. Should I give the dealer a ring and get it fitted or what?

I picked mine up yesterday. Drove back from Cardiff to Suffolk and thoroughly enjoyed the drive. I came out of a remapped 08 Leon FR DSG (aka MK5 GTI) which I loved. This is obviously a vast improvement in interior quality and refinement, and it's definitely quick, but I don't feel a massive difference to my old car. I think a lot of that is how the 4WD just handles the power with no fuss, whereas the FWD Leon had more abrupt delivery and always felt a little edgy. I'd also done a lot to the suspension so feel a lot more removed from what's going on, but I guess that's testament to how good the R is.

So, am I happy? Yes. Is it as I expected? Pretty much. The Leon served me well, and if I was a bit younger I'd probably get bored of the R...but as a 33 year old Dad of two it fits the bill perfectly. Two years is going to go quickly.

Also, many thanks to Sinclair VW for making the pickup very painless.

It's good for me. Nothing to dislike.

I'm driving a Peugeot 2008 1.2vvti on holiday in France which is truly one of the most hateful vehicles that I have ever driven. I was struggling to find any redeeming features other than it's bland and looks local, which as a tourist is a vaguely helpful thing...

For estate owners.

Does anyone know the differences between Sport and normal when in manual mode?

I've been driving mine for 3 months and can't fathom it. The owners book is useless in explaining things.
There shouldn't be one, as when you flick to manual the S or D disappears from the display so you are not in one or the other.

All the S does in automatic mode is sharpen the throttle response and change the shift point on the gearbox to much higher in the rev range.

I was under the impression flicking the gear selector down changed the box into sport mode. I assumed that this was also manual mode but, I've not really played with it.

If this is not the case, how do you put it in to manual mode?

Without wishing to turn this into a MPG thread, I too came from a Fiesta ST which I found to be really easy to extract great economy from. My average over 22k miles in that car was 37mpg so not dissimilar to you.

The R, however, is a thirsty beast albeit I have only covered 300 miles so far. The average (on the readout) is a little under 28mpg but I suppose that may change a little as the engine is run in a bit more. It can also do better economy if you drop it in eco mode (think mid 30s as a realistic figure) but where's the fun in that?

Great car though which I'm having great fun getting to know. Really impressed with App connect as well. There really is no need for standalone sat nav when you can simply use Google maps on the screen.

Move the shifter over to the left and use the paddles on the steering wheel or move the shifter up/down to change gear.

You can go into temporary manual mode when in D/S by using the paddles, the gearbox reverts back to D/S automatically after no further paddle activity after 10 seconds or if you hold the + paddle for a few seconds. Useful when looking to drop a few cogs without hammering the accelerator to 'kick down'.

It should show at least:

Speed
Average Speed
Consumption - Current
Consumption - Average
Oil Temperature - in degrees Celsius. (if the car has just been started it will show 3 lines)
Range - Miles

I think there is one more - but can't remember.
Yeah I was looking in the wrong place, I've got it now cheers.

This whole 98 RON thing is annoying. I got a bit caught out earlier and had to put 97 RON Super Plus Unleaded in it as I didn't know where the nearest V-Power/Momentum was, I guess I will need to know the location of every shell v-power/tesco garage now.

Anyone else got caught out with this yet?

I've read a lot of people putting 95 in theirs so I wouldn't worry too much, obviously it should run sweeter the more premium the fuel you put in.

So you're going to use 95 RON Standard unleaded or 97 RON super unleaded? Or do you mean 98+ RON as that's the supposed 'standard' for this car?

Standard unleaded 95 RON.

I've had high performance cars previously and noticed no discernible difference between the 2 fuels so not going to spend the extra 5p/litre, in fact it didn't even cross m mind when I first filled it up.

Hmmm, there is a difference here though. I've had performance cars in the past also but they have specified minimum 95 ron, the R sticker does specify minimum 98 ron.

I'm using 98 at the moment, not for any high octane benefits but because I wouldn't like any warranty claim to be affected by my using a lesser grade fuel than specified.

I was told by the dealer that I should use 95. Even though it says 98 on the flap, he said it won't make that much of a difference.

I achieved 40.4mpg on a trip to Heathrow in eco mode. Quite happy with that.

We can't get anything over 97 Ron here in Northern Ireland, most garages don't even sell that and hardly anyone uses it anyway so most of the stuff you get has went off in the tanks at the filling stations so good fresh 95 Ron is near as good as it gets here.

Mine is being delivered tomorrow - I presume it will be driven to my house rather than on the back of a transporter.

The dealers are in Bradford and I'm in Birmingham so what should my expectations be regarding amount of fuel and cleanliness on delivery?
