Mine is being delivered tomorrow - I presume it will be driven to my house rather than on the back of a transporter.

The dealers are in Bradford and I'm in Birmingham so what should my expectations be regarding amount of fuel and cleanliness on delivery?
Enough fuel to get to a petrol station. Cleanliness equivalent to 120 miles of motorway driving.

I was told by the dealer that I should use 95. Even though it says 98 on the flap, he said it won't make that much of a difference.

I achieved 40.4mpg on a trip to Heathrow in eco mode. Quite happy with that.
For me if the manufacturer recommends Super then Super it is. Having said that we had to fill up with 95 in Italy last year & saw no reduction in performance & actually a slightly better mpg.

.....why buy/lease a Golf R though & then worry about the mpg? biggrin

I was interested to see what it would do 'on a run', Gore hill in Amersham shaved 2.5mpg off of that!

I think I achieved approx 22mpg on the way home...

The VW dealer that I use has a policy of transporting the vehicle if delivery is over 100 miles rather than driving it.

Has anyone got any good contacts to talk to re: a lease deal for an 'R' as I'm hoping new deals will become available as we hit July as it's the start of a new quarter? I'm in Camberley, Surrey if that helps?

Has anyone taken out or is anyone taking out the service plan? - £287.82

Saves £200 over the normal fixed price servicing cost.

I paid for my servicing when I ordered. £149 got me 2 services. The first (oil and filter) and the second (major).

I think it's £149 for Service 1. Then £329 for a major service so well worth taking out the plan if you need 2 services whilst it's with you.

The Golf R is normally set to a long life service schedule at 18k or every two years whichever occurs first. The cost of the first long life service at my local dealer is £249 so unless you can buy a service plan at a discount there seems to be little point in taking one out, unless the car is changed over to an annual service regime.

Mine is set to 20K miles or 2 t=years so I'll only need one service during my tenure, and therefore thought a service plan was not cost effective.

Mine is indeed set to long life - but it may need an oil change service at approx 10k, then a major service after another 10k or so.

I'll just leave it as is, as I'm being told that I won't need the plan.

On another note - the dealers are saying there can only be one agreement against each registration plate, so unless maintenance is ordered with the car, you won't be able to apply for the service plan. frown

Gore hill is a daily problem..... As it just BEGS to be flicked to manual and floored when going up there. The 'test' is what speed can you achieve by her triangular tractor sign?!

I have twice now managed at 16 mile run (including gore hill) and achieved 33-34mpg and grampa mode. Same journey in chav mode when there's no traffic has also seen me achieve 16mpg. So it's all about your right foot...

Interesting about the servicing. I need to double check. I assumed it was annual and I've booked in for a first service on my R quoted me £165...

Fortunately I don't go up there that often - as it was just an airport run, coming down is a whole lot more fun. I probably would have achieved an extra 5mpg on the way down - but came back through Marlow/High Wycombe. I'm quite happy with the 40mpg I managed, but it's certainly not an everyday thing. The E39 would be an average 22-25 on that same trip.
Race mode is just great in this area! smile

A few us on went through Jardines (t/a Lancaster VW), go on their website and look for the contact for Fleet Sales, as these are regional people, so you need to just ask them for the right one. I found this dealer group were very keen to deal with PCH and I've been really impressed with the service I got.

Ok so I'm cancelling the service. The book says 2 yrs / 20k miles but it monitors wear and usage and it can be shorter. I've done 7k miles so nothing on the dash...

Picked mine up on Wednesday. Only done around 40 miles in it so far but it's lovely.

I tried hard to steer clear from giving it the beans but drove from Aylesbury to Chalfont yesterday (a route which those based locally may know is perfect for opening the taps slightly) and simply couldn't resist stretching her legs.

Love the car, the performance and, so far at least, the noise it makes. It sounds so completely different to the GTI. Big thumbs up from me and definitely worth the wait.

Received my 5a text this morning, which is nice as the car was schedule for production this week. The excitement level has officially been raised a notch. Last update from dealer (TL Darby) was they expect to have it before end of July.

MINT.

Has anyone sought to achieve a 'Buy-out' price at the end of the lease period? I know this is something that you can request, although it may need to be purchased through a spouse or partner. I'm wondering what sort of prices people have been able to achieve at the end of the two years?

The lease companies dispose of their cars at auction at the end of the hire term, so it's always in their interest to try and achieve a better price through a private sale. Obviously the price they can expect is dictated by the market prices, and with so many of these cars flooding the market, presumably there will be some negative effect on used prices. That should mean some pretty good offers at the end of the two years...

Well my ST was collected today so that ends my first ever lease.

A few hours earlier, I got an email saying my car had left the factory.

ETA - 1 month before it arrives at the dealers.

Going to be a long monthbiggrin
