Hi folks,

Firstly, I just wanted to say that I’ve found this a really informative thread, so thanks to all contributors of useful info.

Looking for some advice if anyone can help….. (apologies if anyone feels that this should be posted elsewhere)

I placed a lease for a Golf R hatch on the 22nd June through a broker and I subsequently cancelled on the 4th July as I decided that it was a actually a fairly uncompetitive deal, especially with the cheap estate deals coming around again.

I’ve been told today that as my car is already ‘in build’ they’re only going to refund a small proportion of my holding deposit. Not the end of the world, but just wondering if anyone knows from experience whether or not the car actually is likely to be ‘in build’, or if the broker is just trying it on.

I was quoted delivery of October / November.

Thanks in advance.

If you've been quoted delivery Oct/Novemner, it's not built yet.

Ask the dealer/broker for your order/build number, then you can log onto the VW website to check build status (there are various stages).

There was someone either on this thread or Best Lease Deals Available who cancelled an A4 to jump on the Golf R Estate offer and managed (eventually) to get all of his holding deposit back under the distance selling regulations. Not sure who it was but worth a google search to ascertain your rights. Sounds like the broker is trying it on a bit.

Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate that it won't be built yet but that the build process may have started, i.e. order number generated but probably nothing more. I'll ask the broker for this.

Cheers.

For those of you who like me have ordered the car in white, but unlike me can also speak German..

The one in the video has black mirrors, the update ones have silver only don't they? Think the black suits the white better/ ties in with the other black parts on the car. I presume it's just a standard Mk7 cover?

ETA a little Google Foo later: Hmm not sure I could make much more of a ham fisted job than this...

Spotted my first R estate yesterday.. Just outside of Geneva! British 16 plate in midnight blue! Anyone on here?

Proper first world situation for me.. My car is ready to collect from the dealers next week and I'm in the Alps for 2 weeks! Ah well!

Just wondering if anyone else has had Vehicle Savers come back to them with an increased price for the hatch. Did you stick with the deal?

Instead of 29 x £222, it's now 29 x £242. Not bad, but I'd have probably gone for the Cupra 290 black edition if I'd have know the Golf was going to increase.

Had my message saying that my car had arrived at the dealership. How many days is it usually before you get to collect it?

Also is there anything in particular I should be checking out for when I collect it?

Hey guys,

I know this is a bit off topic, but has anyone else noticed with the HIDS that at night and going over some bumps causes the full beam shutter to bounce around making it look like the headlights are loose when illuminating the road ahead?

Not noticed that, perhaps it's a feature of the turning lights?

Yes. They're almost flickery. Thought it was just me and my eyes playing tricks.

What did yours cost in the end Camboose? Are you able to give the breakdown.

Just filling in the paperwork after getting the term corrected and it is about 600 more than expected.

Trying to work out if they have cocked up the paperwork again or if I misunderstood their original quote.

Were they excluding VAT for any reason?

I was initially quoted ex.VAT prices over the phone, got excited because it was so cheap, then he sent over Incl.VAT prices in the quote.
Still managed to get it a fair bit down though.

Yeah had worked it all out including vat. It was the initial rental sending the numbers off in the wrong direction. They were doing something funny with sharing the commission.

I had to pay all of the initial rental then they are refunding me a proportion of it. Not sure why they do it this way. Only 1 day until I can pick mine up!

After 25 months my Golf R hatch went back to Lease Plan this morning. The inspector was (very) thorough, but fair. They take a bunch of pictures on an tablet and print a report out from a printer in the boot of their car which is quite cool. Its all done and dusted while they are there, there is no further inspection or possibility of a bill later down the line.

I picked up my Golf R Estate a couple of hours after that. Some thoughts for those replacing an existing Golf R with a new one:

  • The new interior rear view mirror is nice, its got no bezel now, looks quite sleek
  • The b-pillar is much further forward in the estate (probably obvious), the seat belt isn't where my brain thinks it should be
  • The ride in the estate is more supple than the hatch (neither car had DCC)
  • The 2016/17 model seems to have much more aggressive stop/start -- I've noticed it'll kill the engine before I've even come to a complete stop, which my hatch never did. I thought the car stalled at first.
  • The centre and door arm rests are now leather, rather than cloth
  • I regret not speccing the reversing camera on the new one, I didn't realise how much I had got used it
  • The new Discover nav unit is a lot nicer than the old one -- better resolution, more settings and the screen is more responsive to touch

Was it the initial payment contribution that was the issue?

Mine was paid Ex.Vat and I had to contact them to pay the VAT amount, which took another week!
