After a very long wait (I ordered in early July) my R estate is due to be delivered to me on Friday.

Was hoping someone who'd already taken delivery might be able to offer a little advice re what to check for, over and above the usual check for any damage, locking wheel nut key etc.

Am I correct in thinking they're supplied with 2 keys + 4 carpet mats? Is there anything else, for example, usb cables etc? Would be handy to have confirmation.

Thanks in advance.
Mine was delivered with 2 keys, 4 mats, service book and SD card for Sat Nav. Along with 230 miles and 1/3rd of a tank of fuel. Superb motor !

Hi,
At stage 6 of 7. Still waiting for my Golf R that should have been Sep delivery.
Does anyone know when the facelift Golf R will go on sale?? Cos I've just seen this online. And I'm now thinking will I be driving my 66 plate "R" for 2 years that will be the old shape!! Offered the chance to cancel cos of the delay. If it is on sale soon then I'll be gutted.

Volkswagen confirms "major update" for MK7 Golf will debut in early November, significant tech upgrades expected

Volkswagen has announced it will reveal an extensive facelift of the Golf in early November of this year. The bestselling hatchback will receive a "major update" according to the brand, including revised looks and a raft of tech upgrades.

Previewed in our exclusive image, the fresh Golf will be marked out by new LED headlamps and reshaped front and rear ends. These changes will be applied across the entire range, meaning updated versions of the GTI, GTE, GTD and R models are all on the way.

Sorry to be a broken record, has anyone heard from the Vehicle Savers and Nation fleet Services deal from back in the summer? My last received e-mail stated delivery end of November, week 48. Although the e-mail mentions if delivered after April then tax changes and so will my monthly rentals.

Have to say thoughts of selling my 135i for a lease MK7 R DSG/leather appealing. I'll try and read back for recommendations.

Don't go mad on options being first, I like my toys, hence the £40k+ spec.

So back to reality.

I've had 2 e-mails so far.. 1 pushing back the delivery day from Late Nov to Early January, and the second saying that the supplier hasn't sent them any updated information. I'm not sure if no news is good news - but I'm just waiting to see how it all plays out as I'm in no rush. Will only have the car for 2 years so not bothered about a facelift!

Exactly what I did - Sold my M135i and grabbed a mega cheap R Estate for a couple of years. This is my first lease and I had to talk myself around regarding the 'ownership' thing - but I think it is a great decision.

I do miss the 6pot growl and the lovely 8 speed box - but the R is a better drive and feels just as quick. Interior felt better on the BMW I think, but I really like the standard cloth seats in the R. Very nice.

But, hunting for a lease deal is addictive - almost ordered a Polo GTi the other day too! Don't need it, just looked too cheap to resist smile

FYI for those who are unaware - I have leased my Golf R from ALD via Gateway2Lease and have found out today that VW only provide 12 mths Breakdown/Roadside assistance from the date of 1st, registration which is 3 weeks prior to me taking delivery of the car.

This is new to me as Porsche, BMW and Landrover provided 3 years breakdown cover from new.

It also caught me by surprise when i called them up just 3 days out of recovery... so i can also confirm that it is only 1 year from VW.

Latest update from Vehicle Savers / National Fleet Services.

"The supplier has currently advised that your vehicle is due to be built week 43, which is the week commencing the 24th of October.

We would expect the vehicle to be at the dealer and be available for delivery around week 47, which is week commencing the 21st of November. Please note this may be subject to change."

Same email past few times now and the 24th of October is but 5 days away...

Fingers crossed, still would not be surprised if they pushed back again.

If it's due at the dealer week 21st of November, does anyone know how long it might take to then be sent to me?

Cheers

I was informed that 1 year would be supplied by VW, then the second year by VWFS. I also have emails triple checking this from the supplying dealer, so hopefully I'll have some recourse.

Just been told my R has arrived at Emden and will now await shipment. How long have others waited from this point?

Would help as I then know how soon to get rid of this banger am currently crawling around in.

By way of information for others, mine was showing as build in progress (or whatever) for near on 3 weeks and in transit for well over a week now.

By the looks of it, its going to be 2 months or more from the start of build until I have the keys in my hand!

Oh the joys

My car was in transit for ages ! Delays at Emden, they then appeared to up the number of ships to the UK, but forgot to up the transport from Grimsby etc. I think the dealer gets or can get a shipping list detailing the cars on board. My finance documents with the car's VIN number on it, were sent to me well before they said it had landed. The dealer I used was pretty much on the ball once it was at Emden and things did seem to move on with a bit more pace...it will be worth it What have you ordered ?

It's the dealers responsibility to sort delivery and transport of cars from the UK docks to their facility.

Finally at build week after ordering through Select back in May. Would definitely think twice about going through them again; they're blaming the delays on the VW supplier issue but the more I read on here that's looking more and more like a convenient excuse for them!

It's going to be a long 4/6/8 weeks until delivery...
