FYI if anyone is wondering about colours - I've ordered in midnight blue, which is now discontinued - so I asked and got this reply:

I have spoken with our supplier and they have informed me that, although they are discontinuing this colour any orders already placed will not be affected. So no need to worry.

Yep, I would expect the new R will get this engine.

Hi,

I know some people have got loan vehicles from the dealers.

How long had you been waiting for the car since order and who did you request through? Dealers directly or the lease company for those doing it that way?

Live chat tells me it's nothing to do with them but Vw organised one for me 5 years ago when waiting on a scirocco. Not sure if it's changed since then or not.

Cheers

Nope, I was supposed to be the same BW (after originally being BW36), no idea where my car is and when I'm getting it!

From the leasing thread, I posted this if anyone's interested:

Yes Lease have a pretty good Golf R Estate deal on at the mo:

http://www.yes-lease.co.uk/personal-lease-cars/vol...

£2104 up front, £233/m on 5k miles.

About 22% of RRP if my maths is ok.
This is interesting. I noticed on that deal that it's open until the end of the year:

I wonder how long the order books will be staying open for the current shape Golf, and if the lead times will still be huge...

I couldn't choose Lapiz on a lease - I was told that the colour didn't have as high a residual resale value as the other metallic colours - so it would be an extra if I wanted it.

Thanks , that does seem strange as half the r's I see are lapiz so it's very popular , discovered it's £60 more than a metallic so can't see why they can't just add the £60 on

That picture pretty much sums up the PH Lease deal thread hehe

My GTD is Tornado Red too, but think I'd prefer Lapiz Blue for an R.

Am I the only one who finds the start bit of start/stop a bit jerky ?

I'm 4k miles in and can't seem to work out how to do it differently to my current process.

Other start/stop cars I have driven have all been manual so by the time you've dropped the clutch to engage gear you get a smooth getaway.

However, with the R, just a gentle press of the accelerator to re-start the car and it always jerks a little as it moves off.

Am I doing something wrong ?!

I think there's a sweet spot of throttle position... sometimes its almost like it engages the clutch a little too early.. Getting the balance between engine stabilising from start, clutch engaging and brakes disengaging (are you using Autohold) cant be an exact science, but they've got it pretty good. Sometimes I will make the engine kick into life by moving the steering wheel slightly. The draw on the power steering pump makes the engine fire up.

I've just hit 4001 miles today, and find the stop start extremely infuriating, I drive in Eco mode everywhere unless on a special drive, so it's more of an issue.

When braking you have to brake very lightly for it not to engage, yet sometimes it turns the engine off anyway. I find it always turns the engine off before I've stopped, which I find a bit dangerous.

Just rolled over the 4,000 mile mark and have my first major issue.
Apart from juddering wipers (they all do that, sir).
I went to fill up fuel, which is a not infrequent task, and the fuel flap wouldn't open.
I had to use a piece of car to try and jimmy it open.
Very disappointed in what seems like a vital part of the car.
The first trip to VW tomorrow for some warranty work. Woo
