My R has just pinged up that it needs its first oil service in a month, what are people paying?

Assume it needs to go to a main dealer?
Mine did the same about 3 weeks ago. it was due at 18,000 miles but there's 19,000 on it now. Not bad really considering the engine is quite tuned up (didn't it used to be something like 8,-10000 miles for "hot hatch" type cars?). It's going in this week with the local VW dealer.

FYI it was£192 for the service. I've never paid to service a car before so I have no idea if that's good bad or average - interesting to find out whether yours was the same price.
Have only covered 6k miles, mainly to and from the station. Same price for me but I asked if they could do anything and gave me 10% off. If you don't ask...

Well done on getting 10% discount. I'm useless at asking for discounts. Don't know why, But I really should learn to just be a bit cheeky and ask!

Seems very odd that my first service interval was 18,000 miles and yours was 6,000. I can't believe that the type of driving makes that much difference.

On another note; VW have just sent me a video of my cars "healthcheck" which shows my tires will need changing soon. Oddly enough the fronts are at 4mm but the rears are at 2mm. I wonder why that would be? I was under the impression that the car is predominantly FWD, and the rears only come into play when the fronts lose traction. That being the case shouldnt the fronts wear quicker?

Does anyone have a recommendation for tires; is there anything thats an obvious improvement over the OE tyres, or alternatively something just as good for less money? Or is it best to just replace with the same as the original? Maybe some all-season tyres...

Reset the service warning and take it in at 18,600.

Assuming you have the Bridgestone RE050 Potenzas, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 or 3 would be a marked improvement and they are quite reasonably priced.

If a car has a shark fin it means it's got Nav or Advanced Phone Prep. Cars from BW22 onwards all have Nav as standard which means they'll all have the shark fins.
I assume that the GPS antenna is in there?

Is anyone anticipating any better offers come Jan? At the moment best I can find is £266 on a 9+23 10k pa - I'm quite happy to wait and see if anything better comes along but with the facelift due (I believe orders from March) I'm wondering if deals will dry up?
Who was that with and when did you get that quote?. I would be very interested in anything approaching those figures.

Thanks

Along with an extra phone antenna if you have Phone Prep.

Correct - I had the Potenzas. While I was on the phone to the service dept bloke I asked about tires. He Recommended the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric (M2??) and offered me them for £400 inc fitting. I was looking online while he was on the phone and it looked like I could get them for around £320, but then delivery and fitting brought that up to around £350-£360, so I just got them changed while the car was there. I know I could've saved a bit but I just couldn't be arsed with the extra hassle. I've only driven a couple of miles since getting the tyres, so can't tell the difference but I'll be doing 100-odd miles tomorrow so hopefully I'll notice it then.

Also if anyone wants to know; 2nd service is same as the 1st service plus pollen filter change at £23, so £215 or thereabouts. 3rd service includes transmission/diff oil and something else I can't remember, but I think it's quite a bit more expensive, £400 and something I think he said.

Service interval on long life schedule can be up to 18,700 miles or as low as 6,000 miles depending on how the miles are accumulated -apparently short journeys that don't let the oil get fully upmto temperature is one of the main things that the OBC uses to set the service due mileage.I suppose that's pretty obvious though.

Interesting, so each service is £215?

I have a 3+23 6kpa and they are offering maintained for £15pm. Assuming I have both services (I will be city driving too, I didn't realise the service changed based on your driving type)

I may just do it - even if I don't have both services the extra cover brings peace of mind for the brakes, tyres, etc. £15pm is not a lot

My friend has one of these.

I think he paid 10+23 £200/month plus VAT from OSV. It has the most uncomfortable seats I have sat in for 20 years in car!We drove to Le Mans and back in 2015 and I wanted the ground to just swallow m after 100 miles... On that basis i wouldn't bother... shame

Funny, I find he seats immensely comfortable. It's like saddles on push bikes, what's comfy for some is agony for others. smile

It's not too bad on a run (though you'll never do 40 mpg unless you sit at 50 mph for 100 miles!).

Short town journeys are dire. I was getting 12 mpg for 6 mile runs when it was cold. That's with a light right foot lol.

What driving mode are you using?

I use only Eco, as there's always traffic. If I'm going for a proper drive, I'll put it into race or sport.

I managed to get 40.4mpg on a 60 mile trip, and 39.7 on a 150 mile trip. I think it all depends on the driving mode really.

Just completed a 2000 mile round trip, averaged 26mpg.

Good job I didn't buy it for economy.

Anyone have any predictions as to when early 5dr DSG R's will reach around 15k? Prices seem to be all over the place, given you can get an approved used decent spec but high miler for 19k, and apparently dealers are selling them new for 27k? Any ideas?

I reckon you should be able to pick up a 3-year old in the trade for £15k pretty soon. They seem to retail for as little as £18k for a 14-plate at the moment. There are loads of ex-lease cars coming back which is slightly flooding the market, and the imminent launch of the facelift R will also knock values back slightly.
