Afternoon all

What's the best deal out there at the moment on an R (not fussed if 3dr, 5dr or estate) DSG?

I've found about 9+23 - £260/month for 3dr. Amortised about £343/month.
That's probably as good as you'll get unfortunately. No big deals out there at the minute.

For when these finally arrive, what kind of servicing will you be doing?

Apparently there are two 'modes' on the car's system for servicing, one for variable and one long-life.
As I understand, Variable will display notifications for when it needs an oil service, so if you've been driving hard it might come up after 6000 miles or so.
Long-Life seems to be between 15,000 and 20,000 miles.

I'm going to budget for an oil change, a full service, and probably a set of tyres. Does that sound reasonable?

Estimated Costs:
Oil change - approx £100 (I know!)
Full Service - £300
4 Tyres fitted - £315

Total over 2 years - £715

Maintenance at a cost of 3.5p per mile. That's pretty decent. My current car is 11.77p per mile (just maintenance).

How do you set to the car to long life? Could probably do an oil change myself in the mean time.

I'm pretty sure it's a dealer thing, so you have to request it from them, or if it's not on long-life, then you'll need to ask them to change it to long-life

Think you have to be careful with this - obviously ask the supplying dealer and VWFS what the service requirements are, but I believe that the VWFS contract for leasing insists that the car must be serviced at a VW registered dealer?

A private buyer, under EU law, can get their vehicle serviced anywhere, as long as parts equivalent to or better than the manufacturers are used and the service carried out is in accordance with the manufacturers service requirements.

We are not private buyers and do not own the car and we have (or will) sign a contract obliging us to follow VWFS conditions imposed and I believe that one of these conditions is serviced only by a VW dealer?
If you miss a service or it is not serviced by VW they will charge you at the end of the lease for 'incomplete service history' - could be quite a steep charge?

Obviously you can still haggle with the price between dealers.

Mine wasn't due to be built until next week, but just received a text to say it's in transit. Happy days.

VW tracker is poor then, as my last update was a few weeks ago with confirmed build date, heard nothing since then!

Good stuff, perhaps they're ahead of schedule, as lots of the BW 2/05/16 people had theirs 'in transit' on Wednesday this week.

Hopefully mine will be in transit soon!

4 tyres fitted not at the same time would be more like 480 quid.

Oil service was 130 on mine.

Where are you buying your tyres from?

£80 per tyre fitted for the VW rated Bridgestones.

I know it's academic but the correct rating is 92Y for the estate, just be mindful when it comes to returning the car just in case you get a sniffy guy picking you up on it

just out of interest, mine was delivered with Potenza S001 XL, do VW fit any other tyres at manufacture?

They've gone up a tad in price.

https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/bridgestone...

£73.29 each, fitting at the local fitters is £10 a tyre. £333.16 for 4 fitted, balanced etc.

These are also the correct 92Y rated tyres.
Would rather the Y anyway.

£71.99 now!

If you find a friendly tyre place (or already have one) then there are bargains to be had.

I've bought from Oponeo/TyreLeader/TyreUniverse(when they were still going) for years.

Always had the correct product, and arrived within 3-5 working days, which is not bad for Germany/Poland!

Snap! I ordered from Cheltenham VW. I spoke to VW live chat on Friday and they said we won't get out build weeks for around another 2 weeks 😟

2 more weeks before build week confirmation? I'm sure that means we will get the minor MY17 changes then?

Mines ordered from TL Volkswagen Burton on Trent. Still on stage 1 on the tracker. Have a holiday to Orlando in late June so at least that will take my mind off the car.

I'm from Northern Ireland and am flying to Birmingham, collecting the car from the dealer, driving the 5-6 hours to Cairnryan in Scotland and then the ferry home. Can't wait to do the long drive!

Probably the right idea.

I'm from Belfast, though living in London - until Wednesday, yikes! - but went with a local broker and got delivery at Agnews.

Did pay more, but with everything else going on in life right now it was probably worth the premium.

(Scirocco R, not a Golf R, but still.) Been sitting in my garage for six weeks, undriven, getting dusty!

Enjoy your drive!

I was build week 09/05/16 and this morning had an email to say my car has been built and is in transit.

Hopefully it will not take weeks and weeks to get to Grimsby and then down to Bedfordshire as I cannot wait to drive it now!
