Bit of a mumsnet question...

I have a 3 year old, who, like all three years likes causing mess with raisins, bananas, etc whilst travelling. As any parent knows, this has remarkable effects on upholstery. This hasn't mattered in previous car... but I want to keep the lease damage to a minimum...

Any one know a good supplier of rear seat covers, i.e. ones that fit? So much on eBay, etc it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.

No, but my boot liner is doing a grand job of containing the mess my 2.5 year old makes hehe

Serious answer, I've just got a seat squab and backrest cover that hangs off the headrest - it's about 6" wider than the car seats and that tends to 'capture' most of the food debris. It was a £15 amazon job.

Good question, my kids seems to destroy the rear seats on every journey.

I'll need to order boot liner, roof bars and bike racks. At least I can keep hold of the bike racks and if I'm lucky the bars will adapt to whatever comes after the R.

Any tips on where to go for a decent boot liner?

Thanks. What is a seat squab?

Been looking for boot liners too - these two are the top end ones I have considered

http://www.hatchbag.co.uk/volkswagen-golf-estate-m...

http://www.titancovers.co.uk/products/Volkswagen-B...

and this is a bit cheaper

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Estate-Mk-7-rubb...

Think I might go for the hatchbag or Titan as they look to provide comprehensive protection and I could probably sell it on for a few quid afterwards too?

Just to double check - does the "estate R" have the same space as the regular estate? Does the 4wd intrude at all vs a standard?

Yes, I believe it does have the same dimensions. The hatchbag page actually states under the description "includes R model" - one of us has obviously asked as I don't think that was there last week? smile

Out of interest, is there any storage for the load cover?

I just ask as most cars you just have to remove it and leave it in the garage or whatever.

On the E39 Touring, it clips into the leg rest part of the seat, and has an in-built material guard.

If you remove the boot floor thing, you'll see the wider section towards the bumper end has cut outs to accept the load cover. When stored, it just means you can't have the boot floor in the lower position.

Thanks for the reply.

That's interesting. I'm surprised that to increase the boot space by putting the seats down, to properly store the load cover, you have to reduce your boot space.
Just seems odd.

I was build week 09/05/16 and this morning had an email to say my car has been built and is in transit.

Hopefully it will not take weeks and weeks to get to Grimsby and then down to Bedfordshire as I cannot wait to drive it now!
Great news. Hoping this trend of speedy building and shipping continues!

My order has updated today to in transit as well. I had a build date of w/c 09/05/2016 so it seems to be going along nicely. Just need to go through the hassle of trying to sell my A5 now!

Got to sell a Q7 also, but looking to replace that with something like an A5 or E Class coupe.

My mind changes on a daily basis though!!

No difference in boot shape/size compared to a non-R estate that I can see. I assume the smaller boot of the hatch R is because the diff and spare wheel well conflict for space - the spare wheel sits further back in the estate so not a problem.

Unless I really needed a bit more height I can't see myself bothering to lower the boot floor. In the high position it reduces the load lip, is level with the folded rear seats, gives loads of room for odds and ends under the boot floor, two storage "pots" on either side and ability to store the load cover. The space in the main compartment is still enormous (happily taking 3 suitcases, couple of carry-ons and a pushchair under the load cover) anyway.

I have the Travall boot liner which was a little pricier but really nice: https://www.travall.co.uk/volkswagen/golf-estate-m...

Also fitted a Rearguard as it's a big expanse of painted bumper to scratch as you lift things in and out - http://www.rearguards.co.uk/index.php?app=gbu0&amp...

What sort of GAP insurance are people going for? Never had it before so not sure what type I need on a lease.

My VWFS paper work says personal contract hire, but they also show a lease hire option on most sites - I have used contract hire for my quotes, but I will clarify this with them before I purchase.

I am using ALA at the moment and they are happy to transfer my existing policy for a car I owned across to the lease, but they do not allow for any refund of the initial payment/deposit - so, if you make the first payment of £2400 and then the car is written off in month one and you activate the policy to cover any shortfall in the insurance payout, you will lose that £2400 paid and the contract may be terminated as the car is a write off.

I think I will go with GAP123 - https://gapinsurance123.co.uk/4/getaquote/

They allow you to add an additional premium to the policy that will pay you back up to £2000 of the initial payment/deposit.
Worked out at £134 for 2 years based on a value of £35k, with £15k cover and using contract hire as the method of payment.

Think £15k should cover it?
