Got mine yesterday! Excellent drive back through the Peak District. First impressions are really good. Its generally quiet but makes a good noise when you want it to. The seats are great, nice place to sit. The suspension is softer than I was expecting but it handles very well. What a great deal! Hope you all enjoy yours.
Nice one!Mine is at the dealers. I'll be in it by the end of Monday
It's going to be the longest 6 days ever beforehand though!!

It's arrived.
Initial thoughts after an hours spin and taking it easy (technically you are supposed to break in the engine, though that detail is buried on page 315 of the handbook and not one of the first things they expect you to read!)
I did mean to ask if the driver's seat is electric? Or just manual?Initial thoughts after an hours spin and taking it easy (technically you are supposed to break in the engine, though that detail is buried on page 315 of the handbook and not one of the first things they expect you to read!)
- Boy it's quick in the midrange, perfect for Yorkshire dales roads...
- Pootles round town nicely. Eco mode and radar cruise control are very smooth, though I keep switching it off by accident
- Sounds good for a 4 pot; firm ride on 18s but not as bad as I thought it might be
- Lots of buttons. It's similar enough to my old Audi but not quite the same
- Not a massive amount of steering feedback (and I don't like the flattened wheel)

Looks lovely - but I would say that! A week with mine so far and I love it. It's a cliche but it's a great all-rounder; quiet, comfortable, easy to drive, fantastic auto box, really quick and makes a nice noise when you want it though, and most surprisingly of all, it would appear to be able to get decent mpg if you don't cane it through the gears (averaging 33mpg over 600 miles, with 39mpg on a longer run).Best of all is that I've still not seen another (R estate) on the road, ever. It's also *almost* completely anonymous, which is precisely what I like. I say almost because a few of the local petrolheads have clocked it. Hopefully none of the local car-thieves have their eye on it though!
On the downside the 4 exhausts look a bit silly, and are totally unnecessary (why not just the two functional pipes!), and it's got a squeak somewhere in the dash/door on the drivers side which is driving me nuts. 1st world problem admittedly, but it's brand new, shouldn't really rattle or squeak yet.

I wonder if any of you guys that have your Golf R's could do me a favour?
I've had mine for 2 months now and its currently back with the dealer for various warranty fixes. One of which is the exhaust valves. When I swap from D to S the valves open and the revs rise - all good! But there's an annoying squeak coming from the valves when it does open and close.
I recorded a video of the noise here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOLs7XIk69k
Can any of you go and test yours to see if it does the same? Dealer and their technician is standing by the fact that it's normal and they won't look into fixing it but I don't think it is.
I confirm mine doesn't do this, I do have a creak from the back but it is trim related. I do have the infamous buzzing/rattle from the sound actuator when in race mode (the device basically acts like a microphone and exacerbates any dash noises aswell as rattling itself), so this will be looked at shortly. I believe dealers will tape it up if they can hear it on a test drive.I've had mine for 2 months now and its currently back with the dealer for various warranty fixes. I think Mk7's are all afflicted, my wife's 1.6tdi rattles like hell, my GTI PP did from the driver's knee airbag and A-pillar and my R has a creak from the back and various rattles from the dash area. Putting the "interior engine sound" on Eco in individual mode makes it slightly better (ie. sound actuator turned down) but they're still there. Mine has done 2,500 milesVaud said:
Nope, never even see the estate in a showroom, I had seen the Golf R hatch in a showroom... I last drove a Golf in 2001. It was a leap of faith.
I haven't either - I tried to arrange one, but they were in short supply - I've only ever seen one estate R on the road, and that was months ago!ayman82 said:
Just wondering if any of you had actually gone for a test drive before getting the car?
Nah! I figured that getting in that from my Volvo S40, the likelihood of me NOT loving it and wanting it immediately was aprx 0%. I'm now very glad I didn't as I think not knowing first hand exactly how great it will be is helping me curtail my impatience that my 23/5 bw car is still waiting for a boat!
Well I received my second Stage 6 email/text this morning, so the system has gone a bit awry. I think this is something that happens every now and then, so not sure what's happening and can't be bothered to ask any more. The car is in the UK, just a few more weeks I imagine.
Reading the reports of everyone who has their car now is making me a bot more excited, so glad it is living up to expectations.
