You may be in a high risk area where that particular model gets stolen?
Nottingham.

Just did an online quote and they range from £350 upwards. Sainsburys just over £400 so £250 cheaper than what they quoted me on the phone 3 hours earlier!

£300 odd for my ST2 so anything around £400 I would be happy with. 43 with 8 years NCB.

Can't be many around to be stolen lol. Still never seen an R estate in the flesh.

£184 with direct line. I'm 43 though.
Bloody hell - I'm with Direct Line. My premium is £685!!

I presume it must be correct, as all the comparison site prices ranged from £590 - £2,000+

How on earth would you get an insurance quote for £184?? I don't think I'd get that sort of quote on a pushbike. and it's not like I'm a 17yr old. I'm 37!!

ref the gap insurance. There is no option to own the vehicle at the end, so it is lease hire (or personal contract hire with ALA). There is no cover for the initial payment available - tried a few. Am I missing a trick here?

Mine is ~550, and I'm in my 40s, no points. My wife is higher risk (30s) and has a habit of driving into stationary objects.

Maybe it's just me?

I've insured my partner, but she's only 22. Perhaps it's a very low risk car for a young driver.

No idea. She has an MX5 and than only costs her £220.

Do you have a high voluntary excess?

My partner has a KA and the insurance on that is only £200!

The excess is £250...

No, I've got a fairly good driving record. Just a combination of slightly higher than average risk factors:

Despite being 37, with 4 yr NCD I have the following "negatives":

1. 3pts on license for speeding on motorway (2014)
2. 15,000 miles per year estimate
3. Car used for SDP, commuting and business.
4. Car parked on my road overnight
5. I live in an average postcode - It's certainly not a West yorks, Manchester, Birmingham car crime hotspot, but it might well be worse than I realise?

Worth noting that I opted to pay it all in one go as the penalty for DD payment was fairly steep with most of the quotes I had.

I sort-of expected that ball-park for insurance, I'm not actually annoyed, I was concerned it might be even more expensive. I'm just amazed that in this day and age, where even a cracked bumper/broken headlight can cost £500-£1000 to replace through insurance, and so many people have no insurance, anyone can get quoted at <£200 a year for a £30k 300bhp hot hatchback?

anyway, I'll have to look into it at renewal time, try a few different variations and see what it is that's bumping the premium up.

No points ever, no accidents ever, no convictions ever, low risk Northern Ireland postcode outside Belfast, 43 years old.

I'm guessing that's what keeps mine down. The R will cost me £16 more to insure than the 2002 Golf GTTDI that I'm driving at the minute.

My wife's Corsa VXR costs £172 to insure for the year with direct line too.

How much cover did you get? I went with GAP123
.
I went with £15k and thinking I am now over insured - it was £134 including cover for the initial payment. There is a 30 day cooling off period so I was wondering whether £8k would be sufficient. Anyone have any thoughts?

Still loving the R btw bounce

32, 14yrs no claims, no points or convictions +named 30y/o female with two recent bin blame worthy claims = £422. Cheaper then the 2008 Volvo S40 D5

I'm planning on getting the 10k gap cover.... Even though I'll be quite frank and say that even having read the VWFS contract, I have NO IDEA what may actually be required in the event of a total loss.

...more feedback from the new estate owners please and how you're finding them. Especially interesting when compared to what you were driving before, and the comparison.

That's interesting.
I think it will be mainly the business use and 15k...

I'm picking mine up tomorrow - I got £10k worth of GAP with the initial payment cover.

A top tip is to play them all off each other, I got a really decent quote for GAP after I did that. I was told it was the lowest premium for those parameters they had given this year.

I came out of a 10 y.o. 320d so a totally different kettle of fish. I love the DSG box, driving is as easy as 'stop and go'. I use the autohold function all the time as well as the auto stop start.

I have only driven on small B roads and I'm getting used to things like race mode where the revs are held pretty high. You can really feel the difference in set up between race and eco. Driving through town it has turned a couple of heads which is a novelty for me.

It has a really quality finish inside and there is masses of space without feeling you are driving a proper barge. I've just ordered a boot liner from fleabay so I don't have to worry about dumping the bikes in the back. The bluetooth connectivity with Spotify works well as does the android auto link up. Not played around with it too much yet but I've been able to get the google mapping function up and via Spotify artist artwork is displayed which I think is a nice touch.

Its thirsty but then coming from a diesel cruiser I was always going to find that. My last car was pretty old so all of the tech in the R is very different anyway, if you are coming out of something relatively new you might not be as impressed as I am!

I'm looking forward to a longer drive at the weekend.

What did they quote you? It might not be worth my while reducing my cover.
