Sorted mine for this coming Monday. I ordered from the same dealer group as most others, albeit the Essex part. I told them I would like to collect it, thinking it was local to me, and turns out I was being sent to MK to do so, so in the end have arranged delivery.

Just did my insurance, £240 FC for the year with Direct Line, which is what I was expecting seeing as I'm 39 with clean licence at full NC.

Still undecided about Gap, I'm really not sure it's required having read the T&Cs on the Finance Agreement but I'm going to call VWFS on Monday to run some scenarios past them so I can be sure. I keep reading Clause 5 (insurance) and Clause 8 (liability) trying to decipher them into easier language....

For the sake of approx £100, I think it's worth it.

Keep an eye out if you are there again as I live off Fuggle Drive (ridiculous name - sounds Harry Potter esque in my view) as well. Anyway, you didn't miss it as I was on foot so no other "R" to see then.
I will do, my friend loved it. I went down the Marsh Bishopstone way then through to Thame via Haddenham, then back to Aylesbury via the A418. We've got some brilliant roads around here.
That would make sense - I'm normally very diligent on the road, and definitely would have waved.

Yeh I like that car. It's a few doors down from me (I'm in a road called Kyle End which has no road sign at present so not easy to find). Shame it's the ecoboost but I imagine it's still a pretty nice car.

Love the reg on it as well.
Ah okay, have you heard it start up - I'm sure it still sounds great in that brick carport, the sound resonating everywhere. I saw it, then congratulated the owner on the plate (in my head).

What did they quote you? It might not be worth my while reducing my cover.
I thought I'd let it run until my cover had started, in case they cancel mine!

I first got a quote with GAP123, - £129 for £10k cover over the 2 years with the deposit cover (£35)
I then got a quote with ALA for the same (without the deposit cover) - £115. £101.20 with the Piston12 code.
I then got a quote with Autoebid (run by Motorpocket) - The same cover - £10k 2 years came to £63.48.
I then got ALA over their livechat - quite hard to find, but I did, to pricematch the Motorpocket quote. This brought it down to £53.18 (as they price match, then reduce by 20%).
I then went back to GAP123 (as I really wanted the deposit cover). GAP123 on their website state they don't need to offer codes, as they are normally the cheapest.
I emailed them stating a rare case had occurred (the wording on their website referencing cheaper prices). I asked them to price match the £53.18.
They asked for evidence, of which I had emailed over to me by ALA.
GAP123 Price matched at £53. They also offered me an added service of deposit protection (I was going to ask if they can tack it onto the £53) - I thought it would then be a non-price-match-able price, as it's different services.
Anyway. GAP123 offered the £10k cover over 2 years, with the deposit protection for a total of £78.

The guy on the email - Mark - very good to deal with, stated that he won't reduce to a penny less than £78 (I was trying to be cheeky and deal at £75). He also said that this was THE CHEAPEST GAP insurance price he'd given anyone this year (with the above parameters).

Apologies about the rambling, but fortunately I managed to save quite a bit of money (about a tank-full).

Happy bartering! smile

Mine arrives on Tuesday and hoping to take it to France on holiday at the end of the week. I thought I may need to have some proof of the hire agreement to take with me. Apparently not according to VWFS. Can anyone confirm?

You need a VE103? (but not your hire agreement) if you have contract hire.

All sorted. VWFS were able to do it over the phone.

It's for the Bell pub in Stoke Mandeville last Sunday of every month.

Some nice looking cars there guys, making me very jealous, mines not coming until 20th June. Fortunately some blokes who like falling over a lot are running around that evening so roads will be nice and quiet for a hoon

I know the Golf R isn't exactly a rare car, I parked in a car park in the peak district last weekend and there were 3 Golf R hatchbacks already in the same car park (1 x red, and 2 x Blue)!!

Having said that, I have only ever seen one other estate. A Limestone Grey one between Sheffield and Chesterfield. It looked really nice, and I think the R bodykit, as subtle as it is, does a fairly good job of making the best of the slightly "frumpy" looking Golf Estate.

I need to get a few decent photos of mine, as the black looks lovely when it's actually clean, but I'm fairly useless with a camera. I'll try this evening as I'm out in the peaks again for a race

Edit to add: that was a slightly pointless post, the point of it was meant to be - has anyone actually seen many R estates on the road? I've done loads of miles in the past few months and have only seen the one LSG.

Also, should clarify I'm certainly not racing the car, I'm racing on foot, and off-road!!
