Mk4 Golf V6 4Motion

Hey guys, i'm after a Golf V6 4Motion. Can anyone recommend where to look besides on here and ebay/Autotrader?

I've wanted one for quite a while and for once in my life i'm trying to buy a car properly which means i'm looking for a nice standard (including the wheels if poss) low mileage example that's been well looked after with a full service history and Recaro interior, preferably 3 door although if a really nice 5 door came along i'd consider it.

Also any tips on what to look for/avoid on this model would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Top tip would be to avoid the mk4 golf like the plague.

Have you driven one? I'm guessing not as if you had you wouldn't be looking to buy one.

I had a mk4 v6 4motion, probably the worst handling car I have ever sailed.

Nothing wrong with a Mk4 Golf, the 1.8 T GTI (150bhp) is well made and pretty bulletproof.

I had a Mk4 1.8t 25th Anni and it was a fantastic car. If you get a mk4 that has been looked after you should be ok. They are solid well built cars, but they are heavy which does blunt the performance. A few tweaks here and there can make them quite a good car.

As above as stock they are poor

Get some decent suspension fitted white line arb kit and if funds allow a uprated haldex controller

204 bhp standard few tweaks will see that up around 225-230 tuning parts are hit and miss although lots of mi4 r32 stuff is a direct fit. My advice take your time wait on the right one coming up with a few more in place save yourself a fortune

In terms of finding one their everywhere not a favourite with the dub scene so gumtree auto trader eBay etc are your friend

Two other things - if you get a v64Mo that had sports suspension fitted from the factory they are much less "boat like" than those on the standard setup, with much less body roll. Also, in order to accommodate the 4wd the rear suspension design on these is altogether different from that on the fwd Mk4s, and consensus at the time they were new was that they handled much better as a result...

Also - they can chew through coil packs. From memory, some versions of the engine had separate coil packs for each cylinder, others have all 6 within the same unit (IIRC those were AUE engine codes). Ideally find the former - i.e. one that allows you to replace them one-at-a-time if (when) they fail!

They also like a lateral or longitudinal acceleration sensor too. These can be a bit of a pain to sort.
