He seems to be getting a better response, perhaps because it's a commercial, than a guy on VW's Facebook page at the moment. The dealer picked his car up, updated it, then said it wouldn't start afterwards. It's been sat at the dealers for two weeks with the dealer avoiding his calls while they wait for direction from VW.It's also just pathetic that loads of people are reporting the same problems immediately after the update - especially EGRs and injectors failing - and every time the emissions group they have at VW UK says it's the first they're heard of it. It's like they think the internet doesn't exist!
Update on the1.6TDi DSG van that was 'fixed' by VW recently.
It is now doing 31mpg average... and that's when driving it everywhere with a very very light foot. 55mph on A roads, and just tootling at 65-70mph on the motorway.

It has now been given back to VW last Friday and they have been told not to even try to return it until it's returning MPG in the high 40's and the rattle has gone.
They are apparently still wanting to get their technical specialist to look at it.

my works 1.6 caddy, '63 plate recently went in for service and 'fuel fix' and to be honest i didn't realise just exactly what the fix was.
i do now.....it feels quicker on acceleration but gutless from roundabouts etc in 3rd at lower speeds.
i can live with that TBH, fuel economy seems similar, the best thing about it is the 68mph limit was removed
the sticker remains on the back for now...you need to get your own back sometimes for the numpties who amazingly follow you for miles same speed then speed up just as you indicate to pass something it's nice to see someone looking confused at their dash

The rattle, if it sounds like a woodpecker in the engine bay, is probably an injector throwing a wobbly. Seems to be a "thing" after the 1.6's have been updated. They might be able to get it back in spec via the adjusting micro quantity test plan. But it'll more than likely need an injector or two.
Probably won't cure the fuel consumption though. And they can hide behind the "there's no fault codes stored and emissions are OK so there's no fault with the vehicle and it's down to user profile" gubbins.

They can try and palm the van owner off with whatever excuses they like about the fuel economy, but it's owner has a lot of time on his hands, plenty of money, and 30 years experience of running a very large company and not taking a single bit of bullst from anyone in his life. Part of me wants to see them attempt it though just so I can laugh while he tears them a new one.

Two months a go I had the fix done on my seat altea (168hp) .. ..got the certificate saying no performance or mpg reduction...and guess what????
Mpg down by about 10%...and car lethargic......just in the name of experimentation pushed it to the max yesterday as had the legitimate private land opportunity..... top speed 109.... mfr claim 126...... (its the 2.0 16v CR sport variant)......other half's unmodded scirocco is notionally 30hp down..... but much quicker.... didn't used to be the case!!!!
Sounds like I've been lucky just losing performance..... but would really recommend NOT having mod done!!!!!

Just to add to the mix; I had my VW Golf 1.6 Bluemotion "fixed". Initially it was rough with poor slow running and occasional hesitation at certain engine speeds. Once it generated a management fault and was on reduced power. This disappeared after switching off and on again but wasn't pleasant. Then things seemed to smooth out and the car was running almost as well as it had before but with increased consumption (45-50 mpg cf 50-55). Clearly an adaptation algorithm going on. Unfortunately during a run to the seaside during half term we lost an injector and had to be recovered. Could this be coincidence - to be honest I don't know but I am still waiting for a reconditioned injector to fit and it has been off the road for 5 days now. VW didn't want to know of course except to offer me a diagnostic for £96 if I dropped the car off with them. Owned it from new as well. There you go - don't have the fix done!

For me moving the torque and power peak to higher in the rev band will create more slippage in the clutches on my DSG box in particular when I tow my caravan ( caravan haters please go and play elsewhere )

I never had the fix done and I service the car myself .It runs like a watch 67k done 12 plate Fabia 1.6 . Oil change every 9k oil filter every 4.5k, fuel filter every service air filter every second service. Cambelt still original so almost 8yrs apparently it was only every 125k in the design stage .Can anyone elaborate. No problems so far no egr or dpf issues. Drive it hard .I add dipetane and 2 ehn to the diesel just what my Dad has Alway's added to his diesel's seems to do no harm and isn't expensive. Next service I might change heater plugs just to make sure start up doesn't sludge egr valve.
