I've got a 2012 Black Edition, it's a great car, never had a problem with it and no oil consumption issues. It's quick enough and does 35+ mpg. I've had it for 3 1/2 years, the longest I've ever had a car by a year. Room in the back is a bit poor but the boot is a decent size.
The one I'm looking at is pre facelift, not sure if that makes a differenceMatt99man said:

The one I'm looking at is pre facelift, not sure if that makes a differenceTalking to a local used car dealer some time ago about a A5 2.0TFSI which re-appeared on his forecourt having been sold some time previously (to someone I knew), he told me he had to take it back due to oil burning issue, I questioned the cost of getting it repaired - his answer was they wouldn't bother & just put it to auction.
Sorry doesn't help but perhaps a buyer beware story.
Without reading the A5OC thread, I understood the issue was pistons & rings as opposed to oval bores, certainly repairable if the purchase price was low enough (was the angle I was thinking when asking the dealer above).

It's a cracking engine, but you're right to be wary of the oil consumption issue.
I had an '09 A4 with that engine, bought from main dealer in 2011. In 2015, after about 60K miles it was using about a litre every 500 miles...
Engine rebuilt with new pistons/rings FOC (and without any argument) by local main dealer, despite being well out of warranty. FASH certainly helped with this. (This was just after Watchdog had featured the issue.)
I'd buy one again if I knew the work had been already done (and had paperwork to prove). Or, of course, from a main dealer. I wouldn't touch an auction car.
