I seem to recall that I shouldn't put my quattro tip through those automated car washes which drag the wheel along. Is that correct?

I know there will be some who say I shouldn't put any car through those but I have not had any problems with any other car and I am buggered if I am engaging in 30 minutes of manual labour to hand wash the fker.

You shouldn't put it through those! smile

Could you not just put it in Neutral (assuming you stay in the car while your paintwork is being destroyed)?

There are enough hand wash places I didn't even know the automatic ones are still a thing tbh.

The handwash places always have a massive queue and take ages. The Arc ones, you roll up, roll through, clean car, couple of minutes. Never damaged the paintwork on any car I have had

it might not be obvious, but they will inevitably scratch your paint and cause swirls from the volume of cars they do. Let alone the harsh chemicals (especially wheel cleaners) they use. Not something I would want to pay to have done to my pride and joy personally!

I put my old A4 quattro through the drag-along type carwashes a couple of times. I didn't have any issues, just remember to put it in neutral.

I really don't understand people who are bothered about this kind of stuff on a daily driver. An hours washing, then after 10 minutes driving it will be dirty again. Really, nobody will ever notices or care if your car's paintwork has swirls in it.
