Quick one as google has not been helpful. As you lie the key down, buttons up, there are two identical indents on the top left and right side of the key, what are these for? (2016 RS6 key but i assume this is no different to other Audi keys other than the RS badge)

Also whilst i'm here, anyone know who i stop the S-tronic box deciding on its own to go from manual to auto mode (Usually when slowing/stopping). This even happens when i'm in full "dynamic" mode. I get that it needs to find the right gear to keep the car going but fairly sure my M3 dropped the gears on its own but kept it in manual

Thanks

Ref the gearbox behaviour, I suspect it depends whether you're driving it in D and then using the paddles to override? If so, it'll go into manual override when you use a paddle, then back to 'D' (automatic) after a period of inactivity with the paddles. If you've got the gear selector knocked across the gate into M I wouldn't expect the gearbox to go back into D, although it should drop down the gears as you come to a halt.

I suspect the indents you're referring to on the key are used to locate the key in the ignition 'lock' when you first push it in smile

Just to reaffirm what Adrian said about the Gearbox -

With the gear lever in "D" but using the paddles it will change to "M" temporarily and the drop back to "D" when you stop using the paddles, however if you are still in the temporary "M" mode when you slow it will still change down gears whilst staying in "M" until a set time has elapsed since the last paddle activation when it will then revert back to "D" automatically.

With the gear lever in "M" it will stay in "M" until you move the lever but it will still change up/down automatically for you at redline or if the rev's drop below 1200rpm (IIRC).

Gents thank you, makes lots of sense. It is taking me time to adjust to the mechanical selection of D/P/R/N/M etc... on the beamer it was always in the same place it just registered it electronically. For example I want to jump out of the car all the time when it's in D and the car goes mental at me and I have to push the lever all the way forward. Likewise when I start the car i throw it into D too early and the engine cuts / wont start. Annoying but i'm sure i'll get used to it.

Push it in where? it's push button, and the key lives in my pocket ;-).

Yep, same here, although ours most definitely has a key slot in the dash should we wish to use it....I doubt they'd change the key design for with/without keyless go

Push the indents in and pull the top part of the key. Et voila, emergency key blade should appear!
