Out of interest on a new GTI what would be the better gearbox or should i say more desirable the manual or the DSG? Would be great to hear from those who have driven both. TIA.

Wife has one. She wanted a manual but I pursuaded her to try the DSG and she loved it. Trouble was I couldn't then find a stock car with DSG so she has the Manual.....again (second Mk7). I have an auto and it would have been my preference, however the manual is nice and slick and suits the car.

I had wet traction issues with our DSG car that i didn't get with the manual and the extra moderation offered by the clutch.

That being said you ask which one is more desirable? Desirable to whom? Get the car YOU want, don't buy for resale!

Historically the DSG has been less reliable, so if long term is an consideration, go manual.

Personally I'm not a fan of DSG - my current car has it, but that is a diesel estate barge - both my Mk5 Gtis were manual - when I tried my bro's mk5 dsg GTi it felt like it was lacking something - a Gti is a car to be driven.

If treated with a degree of mechanical sympathy and serviced correctly, the 6-speed DSG box is reliable.

If you want ultimate performance, go for the DSG. If you want ultimate involvement, go for the manual.

I have a Mk6 GTI DSG and I never think I wish this was a manual. The Mk7 GTI with DSG box may be different to the mk6 but I haven't driven one. Only driven a mk7 Gokf R with a manual box which to be honest didn't leave me saying I'd want a manual Golf R. I'd have the DSG over the manual.

The DSG works very well with the auto hold and active cruise control too. It's a great gearbox and I love mine.

Mine (Mk7 GTI PP) is DSG and I wouldn't have it any other way. Given the majority of driving we all have to do these days, a clutchless car is a no brainer.

When I get a clear road, the DSG works very well as an auto, and pretty well as a manual too. It's not the last word in controllability, but it suits the car nicely, I reckon

Agreed and works nicely with the Stop/ Start too. I've got it in my GTD and had it on my previous GTI

Having said that I'm very tempted to go back to Manual when I next change! Kinda want a bit more driving involvement again

I have a mk7 gti pp with dsg

Now before I bought mine I tried the manual and it was good BUT the dsg was nicer

The dsg is effortless it's smooth as a hot knife through butter it also farts on upshifts
It also suprises a lot of faster cars because it's so quick at shifting! Far quicker than a manual

On a commute u can sit back and let the radar cruise do its thing letting the gearbox go up n down cogs which is nice n relaxing and when you're going for that back road blast the dsg is just perfect!

See I drove manuals for the last 15yrs according to my mileage counter at work I've clocked up over 800k miles in that time (still clocking up on the van) and honestly I'm now a convert my next car will also be a dual clutch again

Gti owners can i ask if the Dynamic chassis Control (DCC) is a worth while option or a must? TIA.

I have almost never used mine. Maybe it's useful for the heel-and-toe brigade, who genuinely believe that saving a tenth here and there is not negated by a lorry or a traffic light three minutes later. For 99.9% of people, 99.9% of the time, it doesn't add anything.

Mind you, by that logic, anything with over 150bhp, or anything that can go round the Nùrbürgring in under twenty minutes is pointless on the road too, so what do I know?

Thanks Doofus as i thought.
Its just that i,m looking in Europe and this option included,
Sports rear shocks
Sport Suspension
Lowered by 15mm
ECO
3 modes of drive.
Quoted from GTI configurator.
Is this the same as in the UK?

Not sure about the suspension. I'm on 19"s and it's therefore hard to tell if it's lower than standard.

I have 5 driving modes. Comfort (only available if you have the Adaptive Chassis), Normal, Sport, Eco and Individual. So I guess the three they're telling you are Normal, Sport and Eco.

In individual, you can change the settings for various things, depending upon what else you have fitted:
DCC (Adaptive Chassis Control). Comfort/Normal/Sport
Steering. Normal/Sport
Engine. Normal/Sport/Eco
ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control). Normal/Sport/Eco
Dynamic Lighting. Normal/Sport/Eco
Aircon. Normal/Eco

I can also play with my front diff lock, because LSD is part of the Performance Pack option.

Having said I never use mine, it turns out I am in Individual mode, where I have stuff in a combination of Sport and Normal. Buggered if I know what difference it makes though, and I'm confident I won't miss it.

Because I have DSG, I can switch the gearbox into Sport, and that is useful.

So essentially, all the Adaptive Chassis Control gives you is a Comfort mode. It actually "Constantly adjusts the suspension characteristics to match the road surface and the current driving situation, in accordance with the preset vehicle settings." Which, I suppose can mean whatever you want it to mean. I didn't drive a car without DCC, so I have no idea how good it is or isn't. Wwhan I bought my car, all these options were cheap(ish), so I bunged them all on. Next time, I'm not bothering with DCC though.

Disclaimer: Mine is a 2014, and when I bought it, a lot of things were options which later became standard fitment. I daresay some of those things have also been tweaked in the meantime.
