I've just bought one of the above. All the stamps are in the service book but it came with no bills or receipts.
The car couldn't be better other than an 84,000 mileage reading ( ( which was common on cars of this year 2006 ),
I'm concerned about the need for a cam belt change since probably the year and mileage may require one ? Is that right ?
Also, does the engine have to come out for a belt change ?

Well, the good news is it's a chain, not a belt. Also, does the engine have to come out for a belt change ?

don't panic Mr mainwaring! unless the chain is rattling for a prolonged period after start up you're fine. little rattle on start up is normal as the chain tensioners build up pressure.
I had one for 2 years and miss it. keep the oil changed regularly on good grade stuff and fingers crossed it should be fine. not buying without a detailed service history was a gamble though, you don't know how well it has been maintained in the past and the engine may need to come out in a worse case scenario for chain/tensioner issues. depending on your year you may find you are eligible for a free set of coil packs -due to recall- as well!

Yep, chain tensioners, but this rattle should disappear within a second or so on cold start and as said, keeping the oil changed can help.
I have also known of rocker covers leaking, and engine mounts go as they are hydraulic.

^ The problem is, people only tend to post about problems. Rather than, "my cars running a dream and hasn't gone wrong" post.... Of course we do get these posts occasionally, but it means the doom and gloom Google results can be disproportionate, and hard to gauge the chances of experiencing the issue personally. For example, my wife and I have owned five 1.8T vag powered cars over the years, none of which had major engine failure due to a blocked sum pickup pipes. Oh, and my B7 A4 2.0T Quattro didn't burn any oil either.

I've got one of those and it doesn't use oil between changes, I changed HPFP follower when I bought it though. Depends on your attitude to risk I suppose, I didn't buy an early high mileage V8 S4 because I didn't fancy scrapping it if it had the not unheard of tensioner/chain disaster.
