thanks for the replies...went for the R in lapis blue
I've bought it for the wife but I'm way more excited then her.....2-3 months wait??
Nice choice, love that colour on the R. Not so much choice on the GTI (only 2 non monochrome colours) but they had a Limestone Grey one at my local dealer when I was looking around and I changed my mind from the dark metallic blue I was originally going to go for.I've bought it for the wife but I'm way more excited then her.....2-3 months wait??
I was told more like 16-18 weeks for mine, but maybe that was just the dealer managing my expectations. I think that DSG and Performance Pack may also add to the lead time. The VW order tracker has been stuck at 'Processing Order' since 4th July when I put the deposit down now but from what I hear it's not the most reliable thing.
R for me. Coming from Subaru its a massive benefit in bad weather.
I like the GTI interior, and dont like the standard alloys on the R. But the optional 19inch Pretoria alloys really suit it.
Plus theres 6 grand off the R in my spec with these wheels and metalic midnight blue paint on Drive the deal and Car wow.
I went out in an R today, and am just working figures out. Very impressed.

I think most people's concern is that before they steel the car they break into your house first of all. Not pleasant if your wife & kids are asleep at the time!
Quite. Exactly what happened to us for our R with 1100 miles on the clock. A targeted theft according to the police.Well I finally picked up my Limestone Grey GTI on Friday after ordering back in June and have put just under 300 miles on it over the weekend. Really happy with the car and don't regret my choice for one minute. I do a fair bit of motorway mileage with work and the DSG, leather and tech pack just make it a really nice place to be for what will be the vast majority of my driving. Definitely a step up from my E90 320d.

Looks very nice. Personally I prefer the R but everyone has their own view.
Thanks. If we all had the same point of view the world would be boring place wouldn't it. Don't get me wrong, if it was a choice between GTI and R of the same spec I would have gone for the R. From a budget perspective, although a fairly base spec R would be affordable I couldn't stretch to an R spec'd just the way I wanted it and even if I could I would probably be in a price point where some other more interesting cars come into play.Only thing I'm not particularly fond of is either of the wheel options on the GTI. Much prefer the optional 19s on the R. Might need to start saving for some BBS CH-Rs.

Looks great in that colour.gmh23 said:
I've recently purchased a 5dr manual GTI performance pack (ex-demo, every option minus leather), absolutely no regrets and I didn't really consider an R, to me they're completely different propositions.
Have you tried the dynamic lights yet? It's amazing being able to follow people with main beam on. DTB77 said:
Whenever I see an R out on the road, the 2 outside tail-pipes are dirty and the inside 2 look clean.
I know there's been lots of debate on PH over whether 4 pipes is too many for a 2.0 4 cylinder engine, but does this mean that 2 of the pipes are merely for show (and not go)?
They do all work but only if you are in the right 'mode' - the default is that you end up only using two unless you take action (which I do obviously )I know there's been lots of debate on PH over whether 4 pipes is too many for a 2.0 4 cylinder engine, but does this mean that 2 of the pipes are merely for show (and not go)?

Unless it's an estate. The inside two on the estate aren't attached to anything. Actually, the whole system isn't attached, but at least the outside two have ones that flow through.Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
