That looks like the variable servicing plan, which is 20,000 miles or every two years except the first year when it is 20,000 or one year - so SEAT tell me. Mine has now done 14,000 miles after 10 months and is due its first service in 6,000 miles or 2 months.

A bit annoying as I was specifically told 20,000/2 years before purchase.

Thanks for the response.

I'd asked for variable so that makes sense, but I too didn't know anything about having to have an oil service in the first year regardless of mileage.

That said, given I've only had car 60 days and oil service is showing due in 230 days, that would imply it was originally set to 290 days - which doesn't seem right? Surely you'd expect that to be set to 365 days initially? Might have to speak to Seat myself next week.

Just checked service info for first time on the car after 60 days and 900 miles ownership. Would normally have done a fair bit more mileage if it wasn't for Christmas period and a 3 week holiday. Oil service is currently showing as needed in 230 days which doesn't seem right to me.

Did anybody notice how many days their car was showing when they got it?

Also, how do you tell if car has been set to fixed or variable servicing?

Thanks

That seems odd to me - I have had mine 7 weeks and my oil service would be at 10k (8700 on the display and I have 1220 on the clock) or 309 days, showing it was set at the dealer prior to delivery. The major service is showing 18700 away and 674 days, which is what you would expect.

I would gets yours in to a dealer and let them explain it, or reset it otherwise you will be definitely having to do 2 services against my 1.

I wonder if anyone has converted a Cupra to 4wd using the remains of a smashed up Golf R ?

probably not that complicated in the scheme of things.

Doesn't variable servicing mean the time to service adjusts depending on how the car is used?

My Golf was on variable servicing (although supposedly most of the leases were on long life servicing). My oil service on that car came up at 10 months. When I first got the car it did estimate it at 1 year but it seemed to come down as my mileage was very low. I didn't have to do the first proper service before returning the car as I returned it a little early.

I tried launch control last night for a laugh. No wheel hop but the car just spun on the spot for what felt like a full minute.

The donor of choice appears to be the S3 from what i've seen on cupra net and some of the Leon sites in Germany...

I thought the variable and longlife service were one and the same. What you say makes sense though. I just thought both oil service and inspection service would start their count down from 730 days (2 years).

Whilst it wouldn't have prevented me from getting it, I hadn't realised the Cupra required an oil service in the first 12 months regardless of whether it was on fixed or variable service. This seems to be the case though based on responses posted on here so far.

I'm guessing at the PDI (or delivery day) everyone's oil service is set to count down from 365 days? For those on variable service, this may then come sooner than 12 months based on how the car is used. But regardless of service type, all Cupras will require an oil service within the first 12 months.

Yes, but there is a 30 day window so get it done towards the end of month 13.

Once that is logged, the next service won't be dur until month 25 - the car will be returned by then.

Depends on how the car is used.

Mine's had 1 full service and 2 extra oil changes in 19k miles.

I freely admit that I don't understand how it's set or calculated. It did seem that most people on the Golf R forum regardless of mileage and what there car seemed set to had to get that oil service in the first year or so.

The service only cost me £139 including pick up, delivery and a free bottle of VW screen wash from my local VW dealer so i'll probably just use them again for the Seat. The nearest Seat dealer is about 30 miles away and doesn't have a great reputation.

Can a VW dealer carry out warranty work?

I have no Seat dealer in Basingstoke (only Newbury and Reading) and I need a rattle looking out.

If I could take it to the local VW dealer that would be a lot easier

So, took my car to Arnold Clark SEAT/Skoda this morning. Booked it in all fine and took one of their techs on a road test. I was nervous they weren't gonna find anything wrong...as we all know, rattles are sometimes near impossible to diagnose; the tech said this too. He could hear it right away, which was good.

About 2 hours later, I received a phone call saying "We removed the exhaust and checked all brackets" - expecting her to say nothing was found... she then says "a piece of felt was missing above the exhaust. This has been added as per manufacturers instructions. The car has been washed and valeted too."

Cannot fault SEAT/Skoda Linwood. To my amazement, no swirl marks on the car AND they didn't use a wire brush on the wheels (which removes the stupidly thin black paint). 10/10.

Anybody that has a rattle when they hit a slight bump in the road, which sounds like it's under the driver or passenger seat, this is most likely the issue.
