Hi guys

Looking to replace the RCD 310 in my mk6 Golf. Was wondering whether anyone knows of any cheaper alternatives to the RNS 510 as these seem to be quite pricey

Thanks!

A lot of people opt for one of those Chinese double-din RNS510-esque stereos on ebay.

Yeah I've seen those, any idea if they're any good?

Not tried one personally as I've already got an RNS510 smile

If you do end up with a 510, I'd recommend getting the newest one you can afford. There are many, many revisions! Older ones are slow and clunky!

I went for the RNS 315 in my Golf Mk6 and was pretty happy with it. Only cost about £250 from memory out of a crashed Passat. Nice unit as it had Bluetooth and DAB built in along with European mapping. Screen is a touch smaller than the RNS 510 but functionality very good. I wouldn't bother with the aftermarket/ Chinese type units as they don't integrate as nicely with the car (e.g. can't display climate control info or show nav directions on MFD) and you risk putting buyers off when you sell on.

Thanks guys.

Yeah I've thought about the RNS 315, the smaller screen put me off a little bit but heard some good things about it so I'll defo have a butchers smile

I had the RNS310 in my 2010 Leon Cupra R which used a CD to update rather than SD card.

Mine was quite out of date when I bought it. Dealer wanted £150 for an update CD.

Then I found out the RNS310 could be updated via downloading the updates, There was new map updates and also firmware updates which made it a lot better system (brought it upto RNS315 level).

I've decided to go with the RNS 315. After inserting the unit, I'll have to code it right? Also, will I have to remove the compass? Sorry, bit new to all this!

It will work without coding but to do it properly and remove any erroneous errors it's best to

Not sure how you've got a compass already without Nav, very unusual for a UK car!

Ah ignore the compass bit, probably haven't! Thanks, hopefully I can find the unit for a decent price

How much does the coding software cost? Seems to be quite pricey
