Hi there, I have been using the Maps app on my iPhone 5S for nav as I got my R on lease before Nav was standard (and i was too cheap to pay for options). When the phone is connected via bluetooth it works fine with the instructions coming through the car audio system. However, if I connect the charging lead it seems to think it's an iPod and displays an error (because it's not). This stops the audio instructions coming through, once I unplug and go back to bluetooth it works again.

The problem is that on long journeys, which is when i use the nav on my phone, it kills the battery so i need to charge it. I could get an alternate 12v charging cable, but am i missing a setting somewhere? Anybody got any ideas?

I ended up getting a charger and dash mount for mine for this reason. You may find by connecting the phone first to the official cable then opening the app after it's linked you can get it going (this works for things like Amazon music for me) .. Also try Waze as your Nav app, I prefer it.

I think there might be a setting in Maps to tell it to play instructions through Bluetooth telephony instead of the music link. This means the car will think it is receiving an incoming phone call each time a voice announcement comes in and play this instead over the radio or whatever. Not sure of the exact details I'm afraid but worth a look.

Yeah I've got it working on Bluetooth, the problem is when I plug it in.
