Audi A4 Avant auto - gearbox issue

Got an Audi A4 Avant S-line auto (2006) for last 10 years and been pretty faultless (with 125K nmiles on the clock). Now getting intermittent flashing of lgearchange lights on the dash. Still drives ok, though the other day I lost reverse gear. Turned ignition off and re-started and everything fine again, apart from lights on dash still flashing. Is it time to trade in or could it be a cheap fix? Any advice welcome.
