The A8 is a SE in blue / cream 64k v loads of Phaetons circa 2010 and 90k miles.
I need a family barge and after many mercs and BMW barges I fancy the Audi but the air suspension and other scare stories scare me.
The Phaeton intrigues me - but it's possibly boring - but newer etc etc
Talk me into the A8, dealer selling it and I love blue n cream cars

I bought an 07 A8, at 85,000 for £10k - thing had every single option ticked on it and was as absolutely fantastic car. I took it to 175,000 miles before someone ran into the back of it and wrote it off.
I replaced the injector gaskets but nothing else needed doing - had the best and most relaxing ride of any car I've ever owned and would have another in a heartbeat

I've run a V10 diesel Phaeton for coming up to two years now and really rate it. I originally bought the car as a University Taxi as I had to run my daughter and all her Uni crap from Portsmouth to Norwich.
A 400 mile round trip, the first leg in the Phaeton was like a trip down the shops it is that pleasant.
I would also add I have two of the worlds worst passengers my wife likes the heater on most of the time and my daughter likes it hot then cold then hot then cold, you may get the picture. the bigger engined Phaetons have 4 zone heating/cooling plus cooling seats the list is endless.
I would like a W12 Phaeton but the last 4 that have come on to the market have all sold within a week so someone knows something there. Mine is a 2004 which is a bit old school but its part of its charm.
Audi also do a W12 and there is a rather nice ultra high spec one for sale on e-bay at the moment I'm a bit tempted but my Phaeton is running nicely.
Test drive both is what I would suggest. The 3 litre Phaeton tends to have what I call a peasant spec on the whole and is a bit underpowered after driving the V10 or W12.
If you have a sports car too the Phaeton makes for a real characterful Luxo Barge alternative that you can leave anywhere and its so anonymous.

Just noticed your budget so that will make a difference as to choice. The same dealer in Bedford also has a V10 Phaeton for £7.5K that leaves you a £2.5K bork fund

I almost got into a Phaeton but certain things put me off like it telling me there was a fault with both the engine and air suspension when I test drove it. Garage said it was normal(!) and just needed "a good run in", then complained when I didn't give them a contact number. Apparently they have 2 batteries and both need replacing at once. Owners have a lot of expensive things to fix and £2000 buttons are not uncommon. I would have an a8 over one. Also I found you don't so much sit in the seats as on them, it is kind of a wierd feeling, I didn't have much legroom either, my e46 330ci had more.

If you get an A8 try and get a Sport as you get better seats and they look pretty decent. Remapped 3.0 tdi is the one to have! Especially where you live as there aren't many hills!

I would love one BUT you are looking at £18k for a decent low mileage one which also gets you the newer 2012 model with much better MMI etc.
