There was a Vulcan for sale at the Mecham Auto Auction at car week in Monterey this weekend. They estimated it would go between $2.2 - $3.2 million US dollars. The bidding stopped at $1,800,000 so it is still for sale.

Knowing the UK list, that $1,800,000 bid must be considerably below the amount paid by the original owner.

I don't think this model sold out as quickly as other limited edition Aston Martins. Eventually there were 24 customers, but do you think this auction might indicate, that not many more people want a car that can never be driven on the road.

In the UK a few Vulcans are now being altered to be road legal, but perhaps that is not possible in the USA. After all, a Morgan 3 Wheeler is considered safe by the US authorities, but they have banned Morgan 4 wheelers.

I think that's a big issue Jon. Fantastic though the Vulcan is, not being able to use it on the roads (and most race tracks too because of the noise) must severely limit the demand. For the money the one-77 is a far more practical proposition (even if only half as outlandish)

Heck if I had that kind of money, I wouldn't let a little thing like street legal to keep from driving it on the street, safely of course. I'm sure I could find a few police that would even block of a few roads once in awhile for a Vulcan.

Yes, I have seen the on-line video of police cars stopping the traffic for a Vulcan in USA. The Cleveland (I think) dealer's red car.

That type of activity would not go down too well in the UK. It feels here now as though electronic big brother is on almost every street corner. Go a little over the speed limit and they fine you. Put a couple of wheels in a bus lane and they fine you. Move forward past a red traffic light stop line to let an ambulance or fire engine through, and they fine you.

It helps both the government finance and the police crime statistics. By going after motorists, the police can solve almost 100% of the crimes detected.

The dealers red car was for sale soon after it arrived in US, at far more than list. What would AML have thought of that?

Yes we are lucky here. Big brother not quite as bad. Other wise I would probably be in jail right now with my GT smile, just kidding of course.

I know don't know about Aston Martin USA, but American car companies don't care. The new Shelby GT 350 is going for crazy prices over MSRP. Since dealers are independent they can pretty much sell at any price they want. On the flip side, other new Aston's can be bought for huge discounts.

That Vulcan is one bad car. It's a billionaires toy though really, taxes and maintenance have to be prohibitive. I was really surprised to see any in the USA, I assumed they all had gone to the middle east.

I'm surprised it didn't sell. If I had 2,200,001 dollars I'd buy it wink

$1.8 million plus the buyer's premium would've been about $2 million to buy it at the auction.
