The warning light has come on the dash and the rear pads are low, I have got rear pads to fit however it seems online that only the fronts have sensors? Is this true, as I might need to change these soon too then. (They look fine to me at the moment)

Should you also replace the sensor when replacing the pads?

Thanks.

Can't say about location of sensors, but on most VAG cars the sensors are internal to the brake pads.

Ahh looks like there is no sensor in the back however the VAG COM needs to be told there are new pads in the back! Anyone in South East Wales fancy a beer for a bit of VAG COM work?

Correct, no wear sensors in the rear - the pads may well be supplied with a sensor fitted, just remove it. (the pads are used as fronts on smaller cars)

The rear brakes must have the electric handbrake backed-off using VCDS or similar, if you try and just push the pistons in without that step, you will break the calipers. Also, the VCDS step only resets the brake motor position, you still need to push the pistons back manually.

OK, so I have changed the pads on the rear, I went onto google and found A5OC and a member (HoldenDaniels) there posted the following..

I knew there had to be a way to retract the electromechanical parking brake without a vag-com. The electromechanical parking brake is a 12-volt motor that engages and retracts the rear brakes. To retract the rear wheel parking brake, you will need access to a 12-volt battery and two jumper wires. One of the jumper wires should have an insulated clip on the end so you do not short-circuit the wires. When you are looking at the caliper you will see the brake line and electric wire/connector going to the rear caliper. Disconnect the electric connector from the caliper. Inside the connector on the caliper side you will see two medal pins sticking up. Connect the two jumper wires to the 12 volt battery. Take the negative wire jumper and connect it to one of the pins on the caliper. Then take the positive wire and touch the other pin without touching the other jumper wire and causing a short. If the caliper piston starts to push out, stop!, reverse the jumper wires. You should hear the parking brake retract and the piston not move. Continue until the caliper piston starts to spin, stop! Now push the caliper piston back in with a brake tool, c-clamp, etc. Replace pads as you would normally. After all the brakes have been replaced. Pump brake pedal until you have a firm pedal. Check the brake fluid. Then turn on and off the electromechanical parking brake a few times and you should be good to go. Very simple!

This works, however the light remains on but i guessed before that this is driven by the front pads only. These are not in stock until Tuesday so I will get them fitted then. Fingers crossed.

Just taken a look at the Front Brakes to check which ones I need I found out I need a 7mm allen key, I have half a dozen sets and don't have a 7mm, I have 6 and 8 but not 7.

Any way brakes pads arrive on Tuesday after confirming the right ones have been ordered. Will grap a 7mm allen key between now and then.
