Test drove an A5 as part of my on-going quest for a sensible daily.

Leaving aside the possible practicality issues around a 3 door when I have a 4 year old (hmm..), one thing that struck me was the offset pedals.

I want petrol, and would prefer manual. Anyone able to share any ownership experiences, and does the offset clutch continue to annoy or do you get used to it?

I've got an A5 Sprtback (kids!!) manual pedal offset is something you get used to, but when you think about it you do realise they are quite a bit of centre! Other car is DSG so don't notice the offset when I get back in the Audi.

Nice cars though, get one with B&O its sounds awesome :-)

Hmm, am wondering about the Sportback but must admit I like the 2 door more -all about vanity mind!

Seems such a shame about the offset pedals, really did notice it on the test drive but hard to know if will get used to it. Other car is a 996 and has lovely pedal positioning.

I have the sportback dsg with offset pedals. It's knacked my back (chiropractor has finally convinced me) , both manual and dsg pedals are significantly offset. If you are considering then take one out for a long drive ideally a test drive over the weekend. Mine will be sold soon.

How tall are you?

I'm well over 6' and it's never bothered me in the slightest. I think if you're short and have the seat well forward then the offset angles become more noticeable.

That's interesting. I'd ruled out the A5 for this reason but I'm about 6' 2 so perhaps it won't be so noticeable.

On the lookout for a 4 door now though. Thing is, wife wants a TT and not sure I can cope with having two Audis on the drive! wink

What brand is a 996? I'm looking something similar to the audi A5 coupe but without the offset pedals which I could not deal with at all.. But love everything else about a5 coupe

I have an early S5, and find the offset pedals fine. As DrG stated, I don’t notice it anymore either. I also have a 2year old and a 6year old, and we (and my wife) can all fit in the car comfortably. That said, on the regular school run my 6year old usually jumps in the front on her booster seat, leaving the younger one in the back in his child seat.
