HI, the above motor has shown up in an old photo at Castle Combe when it was newish - DVLA shows it existed for 3 years but isn't SORN'd or taxed, just wondered if anyone here recalls it & knows what happened to it? Many thanks!

It's quite possibly on a different plate - although as you say HUL4W doesn't show up on current databases, so unless it's been removed and put on retention....

Presumably LHD, or post import conversion to RHD? If it was LHD it's very likely to have been exported back to mainland Europe if it wasn't written off at some point.

There's a thread on AudiSRS about one of the earliest official RHD cars, one of less than 20 RHD examples with quad headlights just before the facelift came in:

Someone there may know more....

Cheers, thank you: I reckon it is LHD, difficult to tell as it's a distance shot, & not mine so I can't really post it up. I initially though it was HYL4W which was the press fleet car, it's the same colour. I wonder if it perhaps became one of the first UK rally cars? I'll check that link later!

Are you sure it isn't HYL4W? That car is still around.

That was my initial reaction but there's no photoshop involved, the photo is clear enough & both are/were brown coloured quattros. Perhaps there's a significance in both numbers I don't see?

Just a point of detail – but this is PH where detail matters – I'm pretty sure there weren't any 'official' RHD examples with quads. The first official import RHD Quatts had the 'flat' Cibies and grille (I've got a spare set up on the shelf as it happens) but still with the wipers biased on the 'wrong' side. Unless by official you mean any that VAG may have had converted after they got here...

The chap on SRS appears equally adamant there were 17 RHD of which 12 came to UK - I don't know but there's clearly folk who follow this stuff. This w plate would clearly pre-date that batch

Maybe my information is incorrect. It would be interesting to know.
