To all the guys moaning about the grip ... it's the tyres!!!
I had the exact same issue with the bridgestones on my Fiesta ST. Fine in the dry but in the cold, damp or wet they're borderline dangerous .... minimal traction from standstill even when feathering the throttle and the car would even understeer on very low speed roundabouts!
Even guys on the Golf R forum are moaning about them and they've got haldex to help them! I'll be devastated if my Scirroc R comes with them on it seems there is no factory spec tyre for the Roc and they have three different brands of tyre they use

Thanks for this! I was beginning to think it was me or there was a problem with the cars design/engineering with power distribution ratio's etc.I had the exact same issue with the bridgestones on my Fiesta ST. Any ideas on tyres? Best all rounder?
Are winter tyres advantageous?
I have seen a couple of the Sirocco R's and they look great. I was interested in one a couple of months back however due to my height the car wasn't suitable. It seems everyone's head is in the roof space in the Scirocco's! Nice looking motor though.
I got a new GTD in night blue as my company car in mid December
I'm liking it a lot and have already covered 3500 miles. It's such a great all rounder, but the OEM Bridgestone S001s are poor. I don't recall ever having such traction issues in the wet as these tyres.
Hopefully I can get them swapped to contis or Michelins when they need replacement.
Other than that it's a great car.

Has anyone actually swapped their poor performance potenzas and genuinely experienced a gain in grip? I'm convinced it's just the slippery road conditions - there's only so much you can do with 200 or 300 bhp through the front wheels; the trade off will be a softer quicker wearing tyre. Years ago people raved about good year f1s but they wore quickly.
Re winter tyres in my experience they are good in cold snowy / icey conditions but you still have to be gentle - in my 330 the winters would spin and slide on a damp road under hard acceleration - almost earlier that the potenzas would but then they were an inch narrower than the summer wheels.

Just ticked over 1k miles. So roughly 1k miles in a month and a half. No faults or issues to speak of so far. Still playing with the idea of VWR wheels and springs but undecided. Will be a summer thing if I do go down that route. Also planning a Euro road trip all being well so need to call VW IIRC to arrange things.

There's a link on their site. Pretty quick at getting one sent out when I needed one.https://www.vwfinance.co.uk/en/privatecustomers/ma...

Not the same car, but I've swapped porenzas on my fiesta ST to uniroyal rainsport3 and they are great, no loss of traction even in the very cold and wet weather we have been having, ide recommend them. Seem to be quieter on the move too. I did look at michilln prosport3 too but decided againstRe winter tyres in my experience they are good in cold snowy / icey conditions but you still have to be gentle - in my 330 the winters would spin and slide on a damp road under hard acceleration - almost earlier that the potenzas would but then they were an inch narrower than the summer wheels.

I would never have thought to do that. Glad I've seen it on here as it might make a trip out to the Tour de France this year.
In unrelated news has anyone else been getting through loads of screen wash? I seem to be filling it up all the time!
Reading through the details from vw the certificate lasts 12 months . I'm off to France & southern Spain in the summer so will hopefully get to grips with the car on some good open roads. I've managed to get through 5 litres of screenwash so far , I'm using the -10 fluid from screwfix and it's really good. Spray and wipe on an icy morning from the comfort of your heated seat and the ice is dispersed really well. No more de-icer spray or scraper. In normal conditions it leaves a crystal clear screen , no awful sweet smell like the stuff Halfords sell.

Tbf my fiesta is still struggling at this time of year and it's mainly down to the tyres not getting up the tempertaure. Since I replaced the Bridgestones back in August for Michelin PS3s out of all the issues I quoted I only suffer with the sharp pulling away from standstill in the conditions we have currently. I had GY Eagle F1's on my previous car and I think I prefer them over the PS3 but I'd still recommend them!Any ideas on tyres? Best all rounder?

Why are notifications on my iPhone 7 silent when connected to the golfs Bluetooth?
i.e phone will ring normal but texts/WhatsApp etc notifications are silent whilst connected to Bluetooth, sane as watching a video or something on youtube
connected to the bluetooth of the car? If you go on media, then bluetooth you'll hear it. (unless I'm missing something here)i.e phone will ring normal but texts/WhatsApp etc notifications are silent whilst connected to Bluetooth, sane as watching a video or something on youtube

nope get no notification sounds
so say phone is connected to the cars Bluetooth and is on the passenger seat.
if someone texts me or WhatsApp etc I don't know about it because the phone/car makes no sound
if someone rings me then obviously I hear it through the speakers
To put this nicely, it makes no _ sound because you shouldn't be looking at _ texts/whatsapp on your _ phone while driving. so say phone is connected to the cars Bluetooth and is on the passenger seat.

(Insert whatever _ expletives you feel are appropriate)
