It's a shame that VW don't offer the performance pack upgrade as a dealer fit option, without the diff. I'm sure it's just a map tweak and a freeer flowing air filter for the power gains.
Who on earth would pay all that money for 10bhp? The biggest feature of the PP is the diffJTsp33d said:
I know modding a lease is a big no no due to voiding warranties and such. Shame because I wouldn't mind adding a decent panel filter and a more fruity cat back system.
Might think about a pedal box and change a few bulbs but that would be the extent of the mods I would consider.@Kayum
Not directly - but I did have a Golf R on lease a couple of years ago (until it got stolen) and am expecting delivery of a GTI at the end of this month (replacing a Peugeot 208 GTI that I got after the R).
I looked hard at the Golf R again but did not think that it was worth the extra money over the GTI. The R was quick but left me feeling a bit cold - plus I am hoping that the GTI will not have quite the same appeal to the thieving scumbags that the R obviously did.
The R was massively quick but also effortlessly so - I feel that the GTI is more rewarding as you cannot just rely on 300hp to make progress, so it is a bit more involving. Although if they were the same price......!

Anyone going from a Golf R to a GTI?
me!I went from a manual audi a4 quattro (220bhp) to a manual golf r (300bhp), and now to a golf gti(220bhp) with dsg.
I dont think the power will be a let down but i think the biggest factor will be going from 4wd back to 2wd.
Lots of wheelspins
For those who are curious about the facelift model coming up,

Pending the press release there's nothing in autocars review that puts me off the current one. The virtual dash would be nice but as it's most likely to be an option I'd stick with the standard dials.
