Spoke to VWFS this morning who confirmed the dealership in Newcastle had paid the initial payment (Part of which I paid £2400)

Said its an error there end but as its so close to 7th Jan they cant cancel the system trying to take the £3120 so they advised me to cancel my direct debit to prevent it being taken

Then in a weeks time ring VWFS back up who will set up a fresh direct debit

Pain in the arse! but at least its being sorted
Good stuff
Enjoy the car

Hopefully nobody else gets the same thing happen I too sent a check be it £700 to Newcaatle as per NVS instructions.

So on Tuesday my golf was delivered on a flat bed. Was told I would get an hours warning call on the day. Went to take the dogs out at 730am and the truck and car were waiting outside. I knocked on the window sounded like he was going to wait a while as he had arrived so early (7hour journey)

Came back around 845am to do handover, he had given it a clean he had a jet wash attached to the truck, I wouldn't of kicked off it it had abit of dirt from a long journey so that was a good sign of serivice.

I am currently coming from a new mini JCW auto. So comparing them is similar in some ways both being hot hatches. And similar prices.

I've gone for a 5 door DSG. First off it's a lot more grown up thatnthe mini, nice having five doors and a bigger boot and just a lot more sensible all round. I've noticed you get a ton of little extras that would cost a lot if say I specced them on the mini. Front and rear park assist, folding and heated mirrors, anti dazzle mirror, heated seats, and the cruise that senses the cars in front and adjusts speeds which was a shock when that kicked in.

Gear box is nice but it can be abit picky on the gears. The mini chooses the right one well where as the golf can sometimes hold on too long or have the wrong choice, the paddle shift is smoother in the golf.

Sounds, that has been the only disappointment. The mini sounds like it's fast, the exhausts pop bang and sounds brilliant in and out the car, the golf I feel like sounds like I'm ringing the neck of a 1.4 and with sport mode on is a cross between an air filter and a diesel with the fake noise pumped in. Is it a game changer... no because it's a grown up well put together car that looks good, is fast comfy and has all the toys. If it had the exhaust and noice factor it would be perfect. Don't let that put you off as it's still a great car and only May stand out more because of the mini.

Nice write up - I'm convinced the exhaust sound in mine has improved with miles.

Agree on the gearbox and gear selection but I have probably being spoilt in the past with 8 speed BMW autos.

I've found if gearbox is set to sport then it holds the gear way too long, not had an issue with the dsg set to normal mode

I'm using the individual setting and tweaking individual settings rather than just using Eco/Normal/Sport

So it arrived today dropped off by a nice chap from Cardiff. Only done about 50 miles so far but I'm very impressed . Went for the manual gearbox and the shift action is great . Car is comfy and well specced and though I haven't given it the beans yet it feels faster than I was expecting . Love the keyless entry and go which is very useful . Overall a cracking deal for the price paid and I can now enjoy driving it properly. Got a trip planned to the Evo triangle with a mate who has a c63s coupe so that should be good fun!!!!!!

I must still be getting this wrong, I just can't get on with the dsg. Does the gearbox eventually get to know your driving style and adjust? Nothing worse than travelling on an incline and it changes up to 4th or 5th when it should be holding onto a gear. I've done 2 long journeys this last week 300mile+ roundtrips but I've taken the STR instead.
GTi is getting relegated to 3rd car already.

How are you finding the mpg? my daily commute each way is 20 mile m'way and 5 mile A/B roads and no matter what I try I can't break 30.8 . Quite a shock when the V8 can return 27 on the same trip with higher m'way speed.

I'm finding the mpg pretty good I had an E46 M3 previously

I got 32mpg recently

Don't forget mpg will plummet abit with freezing temperatures

This is a good long term test review

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/volkswagen/golf/87233...

You will notice as the miles have increased on the engine the mpg has got better

Does anyone know if the car has keyless lock as well as entry? I thought it may have locked the car when walking away, however mine isn't doing this. would be nice not to have to use the key at all!

I wondered this too. Something comes up on the dash when I stop the car I think it says 'refer to manual for autolock' but I am a man so refuse to open the manual.

The car will not auto lock when walking away you normally have to press the keyless sensor on the door handle (don't know about golfs but it's how precious keyless systems I have seen work)

You can swipe down on the door lock with your finger to lock the car but it won't automatically lock if you walk away.

There is a little divot on the outside of the drivers and passenger handles. If you just touch that it will lock.

It's my first keyless entry + go car, I hate to say it, but it's fantastic. Was out a drive with a friend and when it came to setting off, I was gone much quicker!

When I first got mine I saw that message on the dash - safelock is to do with the deadlocks, like any other car I've had press once on keyless sensor or once on key ring lock button to properly lock the car with deadlocks etc or press twice on either to lock without deadlocks so anyone on the inside can still get out.

As said above just touch sensor on door handle; don't try and hold inside of handle at same time! It's a shame the rear doors are not keyless.

Can't remember which page it is in the manual but it's got launch control too - will wait for decent weather before giving it a go.

First post just to say thanks for the forum really and espically for those that shared the deal on the lease thread. Car arrived on the 30th Dec, had been looking at mk5 GTI much to the annoyance of my partner... She found them a tad old and hated the alloys, then this deal popped up, great motor espically from a 2002 plate focus 1.6...

Sounds smart, goes well! 45mpg recorded on a 30 mile motorway trip on acc mode @ 70ish. 30mpg round town for those that dont have theirs yet.
