Headlamp washer cover hinge bracket failure

61 Plate B8 S4, the drivers side headlamp washer cover stays open after the washer has worked. It seems the bracket on the inside of the bumper on which the little flap pivots has broken. Audi dealer took a look and said its fractured but still there so could be glued - but they wont warrant the repair. The "proper" fix is a new front bumper!
The cover has not been knocked and appears to have been a gradual failure as initially it just didn't quite close properly - but now jams on the headlamp washer!
Anyone else had this problem?
I have an Audi extended warranty - they have commented that since the bracket is on the inside of the bumper and the bumper is "bodywork" it might not be covered.
To me it appears to be a fatigue failure of the plastic moulding on which the flap hinges. Anyone had a similar failure replaced or repaired under warranty?
